Sergio Perez is touted to be targeting discussions with Cadillac over a potential return to F1 with the prospective team in 2026, according to a recent report.
As much as I’m over Checo and think he is washed, it makes sense from a monetary perspective. Besides the sponsorships themselves there is a huge Mexican contingent living in the US so having such a popular mexican driver in the new ambitious US-based team is probably going to move a lot of merch and sell a lot of tickets and whatnot.
It’s not like we haven’t seen other good drivers chewed up and spat out by the cut-throat red bull experience. Hopefully he can have an Albon-style recovery rather than fading away like Ricciardo.
To be fair, we don’t really know Albon’s level either, and won’t until a bit into this season. He’s not really had any notable teammate benchmarks until now with Sainz.
Yup, this season will tell. Good stuff :D
