  • All I read in these threads is effectively “WAAAH I don’t WANNA pay!”… Without realizing that the payment gave them something significantly more secure.

I’ve never used Plex, but the thing that stopped me from looking at it isn’t that it’s a paid service. It’s that it’s partially centralised, and starting to become hostile to its user base. This current change, locking down a previously free feature being an iconic example of that.

My partner and I fund two decently sized fediverse instances and a matrix instance mostly out of our own pockets. We do that precisely because we have both actively chosen to move away from centralised, user hostile social media platforms. And whilst Plex isn’t a social media platform, it is centralised and becoming more user hostile, and I won’t pay for that.

(And to be clear, I’m front of house, I’m not responsible for setting up our instances security :P)

  • I’m not sure if it counts as an injury as such, but close enough…

When I was in my early 20s, I took my eye drops out of the fridge and put them on the bench. I went to the toilet, came back, picked up the eye drops and tried to drop them in to my eyes. Turns out I picked up the super glue. Thankfully, I was really bad at eye drops, so I blinked, and just glued my eyelashes together, but still, it’s one of the dumbest things I’ve done :)

  • Maybe not stupid, but I purchased a pair of bone conducting headphones just because I thought they would be better for running, and harder for me to lose. I wasn’t expecting much, but damn, they have been so much better than I expected. Even though the sound quality isn’t quite as good, they work so much better with my sensory processing issues, and I can just leave them on all day without concern. Because I’ve got curly hair, people don’t even know I’m wearing them, and because they don’t go in my ear canal, they don’t impact my ability to hear/talk/interact with the world around me.
