Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you sing to your pet or have other silly interactions with them?
12·26 days agoAll the time! I love to sing little snippets of songs with their names swapped in. To the tune of Whatever Lola Wants
Whatever [pet name] wants, [pet name] gets, don’t you know you, can’t win?
Or just something to describe what they’re doing. Big fan of Been caught stealing by Jane’s Addiction for that

3·1 month agoThat and more really. You could use it to do a green screen effect, but you can also use it to adjust color balance, brightness or do weirder things like swapping values between colors. It gets really crazy when you are working with full video because the time of the current frame is also available to be incorporated, so you can even do animated effects.
Another powerful filter is the convolve filter. That allows you to apply matrix transformations, which can for example be used to apply a homography matrix and adjust a videos perspective.

36·1 month agoWell for instance you can use it to apply tranparencys or other effects using the geq filter. It applies a formula to every pixel in the input and can adjust alpha, rgb values, and gamma. You can also use conditionals in your formula and have access to the current pixels location and value, so you can apply your transforms only to specific regions if you want, or do an adjustment keyed only to a specific color.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do any of you have recommendations for a good retro gaming handheld?
3·2 months agoSomeone close to me has recommended the AYN Thor. I’ve seen some really impressive set ups on that hardware, though I don’t know about the support or anything like that

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•lemm.ee users, how well did the switch end for you?
33·2 months agoI ended up on .zip, the switch was mostly painless, just a couple small tech issues and having to get rid of a default block. I didn’t have any communities I managed, so not really applicable. I did consider Piefed, but I’m satisfied with Lemmy and Jerboa, and many accounts I see from piefed are superusers I don’t vibe with so it hasn’t drawn me. I would say the switch was pretty seemless and I didn’t grow super attached to lemm.ee because it wasn’t my first instance to shut down.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If video games actually determined our real world behavior, we wouldn't be violent, we would be obsessed with powerwashing and all have CDLs.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you work at a job where you fundamentally disagree with the company's ethics?
3·2 months agoI worn in Automotive despite hating cars and believing the industry is fundamentally at fault for the state of the world currently (Leaded gasoline, micro plastics, and climate change) and is working on contributing to the death of privacy and owning things.
There are a few different things that help me sleep at night, though I don’t sleep well in general.
First, I have poor self image. This means both that I struggle to believe I can find work elsewhere and also that I don’t feel like I’m good at my job. You might think that would make me want to leave more and believe me I do, but it also kind of Uno reverses the act of working for them. If I think I’m bad at my job and my job is at an evil corporation, then I’m actively draining the organization of money that could be spent elsewhere.
Second my work mostly doesn’t touch on the things that are vile and awful about the industry. I’m a programmer and my work primarily deals with displays and control interfaces. A display not coming up isn’t going to harm the industry in any meaningful way, but it will impact a person using the end product. Since that’s where most of my work lies it is easy to rationalize doing those things.
I’m unhappy my industry exists and has done such damage to the world, but until I can find something better I’m stuck.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would you do if you could transform into an invisible tiger?
12·4 months agoIs the tiger always invisible or just when you want it to be? I’m thinking pranking a friend in the shower, but I think it would be more fun with a visual component

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What character from a movie/show/game/anything did you think you were going to hate, but ended up liking?
4·4 months agoLove both, but I would say that show Nynaeve starts stronger than book Nynaeve. Zoë Robins did such a great job with breaking her block and every other scene

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some natural hot springs/spas in video games?
2·5 months agoCan’t find a great screen grab, but Vidna from Legend of Legaia is one of the first towns you find that is unaffected by the mist and the reason is they use their natural hot springs to power fans to keep the mist from settling. You get to wander through the spa area as well before you break the windmills 💀
