  • I don’t disagree. I think what I’m trying to say is that you are applying rationality and consistency behind “what is legal” and how that is determined. You’re applying that reason to the way laws are created or interpreted.

But, “what is legal” is not rational or consistent in reality. What is legal or illegal is primarily determined by maintaining the interests and structures of existing economic systems. Systems that are built upon maintaining profits.

I’m not disagreeing with your reasoning. I’m saying that your rational thinking is not being applied by the systems that decide what is legal or what is illegal. The primary logic that is being applied is “is this hurting profits?”. And if the answer to that question is “yes” then these systems will create laws and classifications that are irrational and filled with contradictions; in order to protect those profits.

  • I’d say it’s more about the ease of use that it’s targeted. The average person is not getting a permanent mp3 or mp4 of a video by watching YouTube.

If they were to target anything it would be browser based extensions that allow that easily with a download button. Which are basically using the same routes that yt-dlp is using and putting a UI element for it.

I know. From the perspective of you and I it’s silly to target some specific popular method because there is no logic to do so. The logic they are using isn’t in the tool and how it’s made. The logic is just targeting something that’s popular. Rather than admit that the economic systems that rely on private property and scarcity are just fundamentally incompatible with digital content.

We’ve lived with an outdated economic system of incentives that should have died when the Internet was born. At least for digital content. This is just another denial of that contradiction. It doesn’t have to have a logical reason for it. It’s been illogical since the start.

It was always running on a free base (Slackware). Unraid sells because of its ease of use and reliability. It’s selling the features on top of the OS. It wouldn’t be as popular or as functional as it is if it wasn’t running Linux under the hood.

If there is one piece of software I’ve not regretted buying a lifetime license for, it’s been Unraid.

It may not be for everyone. And it has its quirks like anything else. But I’ve been running it for years now and have even had to experience the dead drive recovery process. It’s solid.

Could I use something free? Probably. But, I’m getting old. I just want something that has good community support, has an nice interface, and also still allows me to get my hands dirty with bash or programming when I need to.

  • As a former Microsoft employee, I have noticed they seem to be left out from these shit tech companies in memes like this. Not sure why. They are beyond awful.

I was terminated for working with other Microsoft employees that were attempting to hold Microsoft accountable for their support of Israel and it’s military infrastructure and the Palestinian Genocide.

Fuck all these tech companies. But fuck Microsoft too. They just laid off thousands of people last week. No Azure for Apartheid.

  • Not to be that annoying person. But it’s how our brains operate to look for patterns or repeatability. It’s not that you were magically catching the clock at 4:04 all the time. You just don’t remember when you looked at 3:10 on multiple days of the week because it wasn’t meaningful.

It’s like if you notice your friend has a new car. You suddenly start noticing other people driving that car in the exact same color. Like, suddenly everyone bought that car! It’s just your brain looking for meaning.

Ok. Sorry. I got my autism comment out. I’ll be gone.

You replied to my edit with a fantasy. So, you gave a hope of some material outcome and didn’t explain at all how you jump to that. That magically the people will move to PSL by attacks on an anti Zionist.

I’m in PSL mate. You know what most people think about him? “I don’t live in Maine. But if I did I’d vote for him over a Zionist” and then we move on and keep organizing for a protest or immigration rights training.

You know what gets most people to join PSL? It’s not trying to be “more left than thou”. It’s some dude in DSA that joined DSA because they liked Bernie Sanders and Mamdani, joined DSA, and then met PSL people at protests. That’s the normal way people find us.

The more people joining DSA, voting for antizionist, and getting involved because they see momentum. That’s how we recruit.

PSL. We are not the viable alternative to Platner. We don’t run in political races to win. We essentially use them as an advertising campaign and nothing more.

When the internet lefties spend all their time attacking an anti Zionist socdem the only material outcome of that is support for the next viable alternative to the socdem. And that, right now, is a Zionist. That’s where they go to. To the liberal Zionist that makes them feel comfortable. They don’t magically join PSL when they see some cringe post about Platner.

If you want to help PSL. Just shut the fuck up about Platner already. He’s as good as elected at this point. If he sucks and betrays his voters - cool, we don’t associate with him anyway. We don’t like him - but we’ll sure as fuck use him to recruit and spread agit-prop. Voting isn’t picking a partner in a relationship. Politicians are TOOLS for revolution - we will use them anyway we can. Stop attributing moral arguments to them. Because it’s making you imagine a fantasy as your “material outcome”.

You didn’t actually name a material goal or outcome. What was Lenin’s goal then? What was the world he lived in and what message was he trying to send? Do you think Lenin would spend his time attacking a socdems that wanted to stop genocide while ignoring their further right opponent?

You literally didn’t answer the question and just tried to appeal to some vague idea of “socdems bad”. You’re using Lenin like some religious figure. Like, this is not different than “Jesus said to pay taxes to Cesar” and then universally accepting that taxes should always be paid for all time and all places. You’re apparently able to read the words of Lenin. But, not actually able to apply them if all you got from reading is “socdems always bad”.

Also, to be worried about socdems you actually have to live in a world where socdems and communist are actually both viable political movements with organized power. You have to actually have a viable alternative. If you have no viable alternative then your actions of critizing socdems is only beneficial to the next viable alternative. The next viable alternative is fascism and support for Israel.

I WISH we lived in a world where I had to worry about the socdems siding with the fascist and betraying the revolution. But, holy shit mate, you don’t live in Russia in the 1910s.
