      Officially I was wrong:

      Unofficially though…:

      The Mastercard deal is estimated to be in the region of $100 million per season

    The team’s official name will become ‘McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team’ from next season.

    Boo!

    A heritage team like McLaren or Ferrari should not do title sponsorships IMO.

      I agree, but there is no room for romance in capitalism. If there is over $100m on the table they’re not turning it down. Especially since the combination of the budget cap and the exploding popularity post-DTS has turned F1 from a marketing money sink into a for-profit venture.

      Ferrari was Marlboro-Ferrari for years. As soon as Enzo died, they painted the cars Marlboro red and named it rosso corsa.
