It should be classified as a sign of mental illness. If I had half of a billion dollars I wouldn’t work another day in my life and the general public would never hear from me. These fuckers have more money than they could ever spend and still desperately want more.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When we eat the billionaires, we should spare Gabe Newell? No?
1·1 month agoHuge efforts were made to reduce noise and vibration, thereby creating a pleasant onboard environment.
Oh what a good billionaire, his efforts to make his onboard environment more pleasant is also beneficial to the outside environment! Such a giver!
The off-white exterior and synthetic handrails require less cleaning, for example.
The colour of paint chosen for his mega yacht really shows how much he cares!
How about you ask yourself how many scientists and engineers HE paid to have a job to work on this?
And you haven’t been listening. I’m not repeating myself on this point anymore.
You just see a yacht and think the worse. Worlds far less black and white.
Literally the opposite of what I said at the end of my previous post. If you’re not going to bother to read what I say then what are we doing here?

1·1 month agoto bring his dream vessel to fruition.
God how much money was wasted on havingthousands of people work on the design of his vanity project?
Yes, it’s better than other vanity projects, but it is still a wasteful vanity project.

2·1 month agoYou know what would further more research than give offering a portion of your super yacht to scientific research? Not building a billion dollar super yacht and giving that money to scientific research instead. Let the people who know what they’re doing decide what they need and not be beholden to your whims.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats your hot take on something that doesnt matter at all?
1·1 month agoI see what you’re saying, but the problem is better solved by getting rid of gendered language instead of creating more of it:
“The aviator has been flying for decades”
“Oh yeah? I bet they’re really good at it then!”
“yes, they are one of the best in the show!”

131·1 month agoWe don’t need gender specific words for things that aren’t gender specific. Does the aviator use their penis for flying the plane? If not why do you need to tell me with their title if they have a penis?
I hate the word widower. It sounds like a verb. A widower kills married men and makes widows. Widow works fine for everyone.

133·1 month agoIsland has an ‘s’ in it. This was started as a stylistic choice to make the word look more Latin despite the fact that the English word has no Latin roots.
This is proof enough that English is a stupid language for the unwashed masses. There are no rules, all that matters is how it is used and understood. Anyone who tries argue that “literally can not mean figuratively” or that gif has to be pronouced a specific way is an idiot trying to force logic into a system that has none. Don’t waste your time trying to explain that you know the only true and proper rules to Calvinball.
That ‘s,’ that’s what broke me.
Miss a turn.
My bullshit that genocide can get worse and that’s bad?
All I said was “more genocide is bad”. I can’t believe people would disagree with that so hard.
Cool, so you’re just arguing things you don’t believe and only admit to that when you recieve push back.
Doing nothing while a genocidal political takes control and does more genocide: action!
American exceptionalism strikes again.
“Everything America does directly affects everyone else in the world. You only care now because of this. I cared before and that’s why I did nothing to stop this.”
Cool, what are your doing to destroy the country faster? Or having you convinced yourself that inaction is helpful?
Right, all my posts about more genocide is bad means I don’t care about anything.
Great contribution.
The meme is the trolly problem, and this guy is saying “it doesn’t matter if you pull the lever, someone dies either way, it’s exactly the same!”
Except in the actual situation is more like “if you pull the lever the trolly will divert from running over group A and will run over group B. If you do nothing the trolly accelerates and runs over both groups A and B.”
I’m saying it’s worth pulling the lever while you work on a solution to stop the trolly. Someone arguing against that either doesn’t care about group A, or cares more about not being involved than in actually saving lives.
Saying “but Trump will do more genocide” makes you sound like a fucking idiot.
Tell me you don’t pay attention without telling me you don’t pay attention.
“Not voting for someone who refuses to speak out on x is having an idealised moral high ground”
You cut off the rest of the sentence: “When the alternative will only result in more.” Your problem is you fail at context, everything exists in a vacuum and has no affect on anything else.

But then how would they track their high score?
