Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What YouTube channel to you has degraded in time?
251·2 months agoI still think about the guy sometimes. It’s perplexing how someone so smart turned out to be so dumb.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your favourite niche website that is still running and hasn't changed much in 20~ or so years?
10·4 months agoTop site, the Ian Knot must have already saved me cumulative hours of shoelace tying time.
No sense paying off debts early if their interest rate is lower than the profit you would get by investing. This is dependent on timescale though.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What stereotypes about your country do you actually happen to fit?
18·5 months agoI heat up the sauna 4-5 times a week.
The last CD-drive I had burned at 52x. I still remember how it sounded like a small jet engine spooling up when the burn started. Amazing how I always got bit perfect burns and how the discs didn’t explode while spinning like a car turbocharger.
Smileys are where it’s at. :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most "First world problem" you've experienced?
18·6 months agoI also started to disable start-stop every time I drive after it once fucked me. I came to an uphill stop just when the light turned green so the car decided to shut itself off. After that I stalled the engine in my confusion when trying to move. Long line of cars behind me of course.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the Holy Grail item in your hobby?
92·6 months agoThe irony with those is that once you’re at a stage of life where you can afford those, you probably can’t hear anything over 14kHz anyway. At least there’s that sweet midrange!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?
1·7 months agoThanks, interesting industry knowledge. I need the panels to come off some day though. Otherwise I would have looked at glues/epoxies from the start.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most unexpectedly useful item you've ever bought under $20?
5·7 months agoI have a IKEA pergola on my backyard and I’ve been trying to come up with a way to attach some plastic paneling on top of it without drilling. This might be it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What instruments have the most relaxing timbre to you?
6·8 months agoMy favorites are eastern instruments that have a meditative quality, like the Indian tanpura.
Also whatever instrument this man is playing.
But I think above all I’m a fan of the American steel guitar. That wailing sound evokes nostalgia and melancholy like nothing else.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•At some point, kids watching older cartoons will no longer understand why putting a thermometer under a desk lamp was a way to skip school.
60·9 months agoKids today don’t know that until quite recently if you turned on the TV and you didn’t get any picture, you could give the thing a firm slap on the side and it would work.

3/4 of screen space filled with ads, how do you live like this?
