Not a good time. Definitely one of those loss of innocence moments. I used to stride fearlessly through the city in the middle of the night, and I have not quite gotten that back yet. It’s better, but not the same.

I’ve been punched in the face by passers-by without any provocation in my life before, which has led to me constantly being vigilant.

Jellyfin is better anyway
I wish this were true, but as a multi-year Plex-to-Jellyfin migrant, I have to point out that Plex was the better software.
I still choose to run Jellyfin for other reasons (don’t like the commercial path Plex is taking, among others), but I still do miss the better reliability and larger feature set in the Plex software stack.
May I suggest the orchestra song from Joey Quits? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A4UGtM4hDQ
Seems to have the kind of celebratory vibe that would be warranted
Not an actual recommendation, but:
In Sweden, unions and left-wing parties hold demonstrations during 1 May, International Workers’ Day. In 2020, this was deemed to not be feasible due to the Covid pandemic being in full swing. Hence, the left-wing party in Sweden decided to run their demonstration in World of Warcraft. It was truly a sight to see, a bunch of level 1 characters marching in Durotar from the Valley of Trials to Orgrimmar. The memes were spectacular.
It used to be bigger in Sweden, but there are still workers parades every year on 1 May.
A problem I avoid by brewing a single cup at a time.
Incredibly cringe opinion, congratulations
I bike! Both to work, general transportation (for example grocery shopping) and just for fun.
It’s very easy in Sweden - there are plenty of e-commerce alternatives present, and you can use a comparison website to find the best price for any given item.
For various cycling gadgets and other cheap stuff, I’ve started ordering on AliExpress, with a pretty decent success rate so far.
I wish I could have some installed, but alas, I live in an apartment building on a high floor, and I don’t get to make the call.
First line of defense: blocking out sunlight in all windows during the day
Second line of defense: highly active drafting, creating a cross-breeze when the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor temperature
Third line of defense: Fan, reduces perceived temperature significantly
Fourth line of defense: Acclimatization, warm showers before bed (supposedly helps)
Fifth line of defense, in case everything else fails - basically a heatwave: portable AC
Cellulose is generally recyclable but as I understand it degrades through each cycle, until it’s basically unfit for recycling and is more efficient to burn for energy.
By the power of podcasts, I have become equipped to handle the Sisyphean daily tasks. I used to dread them, now I don’t mind them at all.
A few not yet mentioned:
And a vote for previously mentioned podcasts:
Well, it’s obviously not going to be the iPad that wins in that case
A few variants I like:
I like the progression. It’s cool to see the numbers go up
It literally just makes me feel like a kid again, just flying around at quite high speeds. I’ve recently discovered that this is also a lot of fun to do with friends
This is the one that helped me the furthest in weight loss back when I was overweight. You can do basically unlimited amounts of it, and with a podcast or audiobook in your headphones, it doesn’t really get boring either.
