  • 4k with 10b/pixel (assuming, could be 12) x 60fps (assuming) x 360s (4min) x 3 cameras:

    3840 * 1920 = 7,372,800 pixels

    7372800 * 3 channels (RGB) = 22118400 values

    22118400 * 10/8 = 27648000 bytes

    27648000 * 60 = 1,658,880,000 bytes/sec

    1658880000 * 360 = 597,196,800,000 (0.6TB for 4 minutes)

    .6TB * 3 cameras = 1.8TB

RAW means RAW, no encoding, no cute channel games, no nothing, just fuck-off I/O.

edit: My bad, that’s 6 minutes, so assume 12 bits per second and you get the same size for 5 minutes.

Modern compression algorithms are quite literally just magic at this point.

    edit2: FUCK! Forgot audio!

    So… 192khz * 32bits/8(bits per byte) = 768,000 bytes/sec * 300 (5 minutes) = 230,400,000, so 230MB, doesn’t really move the needle.

  • Last week got my new epyc server with GPU running ollama and all the trimmings.

This week linked my 2 home bases with wire guard, all the subnets mesh and the wifi isolation is solid. Performance is surprisingly good considering they’re 9 time zones apart on different hemispheres.

Migrating plex to jellyfin to get hw accel working.

Also trying to get my second base multiple statics and 10gb if possible, rural fiber in Europe is unbelievably aweome, hope to drop Comcast business back home if it works.

Got someone to work with on a new company, so that’s part of this, though my day job relies on this too.

  • If the speeds are right, that’s almost a smoking gun for a weak autoreverse spring.

You might be able to jury-rig it temporarily, I don’t know this unit’s design, but either remove the spring and replace it with string or wire so the autoreverse sensor can’t trigger, or fix the spring itself.

Pull it and see what kind of tension it has.

Heat treating is the proper method to fix it, here’s the directions from chatgpt, it’s not wrong, usually I’ve just seen it kept relaxed and heated with a lighter for 10 seconds, then left to cool.

Heat the spring to ~400–600°F (204–316°C) depending on material (e.g., music wire, stainless).

    Hold for 30 minutes.

Let it cool slowly in air.

We had a huge population of genuinely evil people who were locked away in the rural south so they could only abuse black people around them.

Then social media gave these people a voice and politicians realized they could pander to the trash with funding from the billionaires and that’s enough to keep them in power indefinitely.
