    Thanks for your help! It’s very much appreciated. I was thinking I might want to use this VPS for an occasional OwnCast stream and as a SyncThing target, so it sounds like I’ll need a reverse proxy. Any recommendations on something relatively easy to use? I’ve seen people mention ngnix, traefik, caddy and a few others, but I’m not sure which would integrate nicely with ESS. Also, I appreciate the heads up about the helm commands. Definitely important info to have!

    Sorry for the delayed response, things have been wildly busy for me.

    I did configure my domains as instructed, and they do resolve to the expected IP address. I don’t have an already existing reverse proxy, so I was just following along with what the guide was telling me to do. That said, this may be the issue, because I don’t recall seeing any specific set up for the included reverse proxy and I’ve been through that guide 3 times. I haven’t configured port forwarding on my router since I’m using a Hetzner VPS for this, but I did make sure to open up the required ports on the firewall.

    I’ve been trying to get this running for days, but I’ve had no luck. I follow the install instructions and when I get to the last step of actually starting the service, it fails, seemingly because there’s some issue with the config file that I can’t figure out. I was hoping this would be a good alternative for ESS Community, which I had no luck with either.

    1. Sign an executive order repealing every executive order The Fanta Menace signed.
    2. Eliminate the massively stupid electoral college and implement ranked choice voting for all federal elections.
    3. Eliminate the Senate, whose only purpose appears to be to give states with 5 people as much power as states with 5 million people, which is deeply undemocratic.
    4. Implement a program to periodically assess how many representatives per state should be in the House of Representatives, aligned with every census, so proper population based representation can occur.
    5. See if there’s a way to fix the Supreme Court by either getting rid of FatPutin’s appointees that he got via Congressional interference, by expanding and packing the court, or both. Also, implement a 20 year term limit instead of this life bullshit so we don’t have seniles making key decisions.
    6. Set the age limit for all federally elected positions to 60 because again, we don’t need seniles making important decisions. Go enjoy your golden years with all your ill-gotten lobby money. Also make this the standard retirement age for everyone. Work longer than this if you want or need to, but this should be the age we all retire so we can enjoy some part of life before we’re too decrepit to move.
    7. Tax the fuck out of the rich. Rich is defined as over $1 million a year in income of ANY form. Anyone who resists by using tax shelters or other loopholes has all their assets seized and liquidated to be put into a fund for the public good and is jailed for 10 years in a medium security prison. Any income over $1 million per year is basically forfeit because no one gets that rich without exploitation and no one needs that kind of money. And what will we do with all this new tax money?
    8. UBI for everyone, housing for the unhoused, food for the unfooded, and universal health care for all without exception.
    9. If I haven’t been assassinated before getting all this done, I will immediately resign because I absolutely do not want this job or anything approaching this level of responsibility, but someone has to right this stupid ship, so I’ll do my best to get the above done, then fuck off and no one has to hear from me again.

    With Netflix in a browser, you can bring up your streaming stats in the browser window as you’re watching something by pressing Ctrl + Shift+ Alt + D. It’ll give you several bits of information as an overlay, including what resolution the video is playing at. Next time you stream from them, give it a shot and see if you get anything above 720p. I know I never have and if you search online, you’ll find others with the same experience. In fact, I think Netflix might actually have this on a FAQ page somewhere…

    Scroll down to the OS selection and you can see what resolutions are supported by which browsers on Linux. Turns out Opera will give you 1080p for some reason, but the rest are capped at 720p.
