Isn’t the data sharing optional? I’m pretty sure it asks you on first startup and you can decline.

Keep in mind that the DAC on the Pi is pretty awful so it might not sound great.

You might want to get a audio HAT or USB DAC.

It does require a phone number. The option to generate a username is there if you want to chat with people on signal but don’t want to give out your phone number.
