I’m sure that type of behaviour is a good mix of nature and nurture. Maybe certain genetics can make one predisposed to it, but I’d bet social conditioning probably holds a significantly greater influence.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your favorite movie that is in a language which you do not speak?
2·3 months agoI didn’t even realize Pan’s Labyrinth wasn’t in English… I need to watch more movies.
SyntaxError: Unexpected token ‘catch’
I can’t tell where the bit ends and the Dunning-Kruger begins
Weird that you had to port the language of your uhm…database repository? But whatever it takes to keep track of your basic bitches! 🫡
…database?
Okay, but literally all of that is reason to need temperature monitoring?
For what it’s worth, from one internet stranger to another, I’m sorry.
No one should feel so betrayed on all fronts. That’s awful :(
I honestly hate this term, but alas, I also say wall wart most of the time.
True, but I see it more as a tool for a non-technical person to make a prototype of a user experience more than making a foundation for how a project will actually be built and designed from a code perspective. Like, when it comes to the actual implementation of said project, the developer(s) shouldn’t even look at the prototype code. I envision, in this example, as it solely being a tool for non-technical people to express their ideas to the technical side of the operation.
I agree with you though, that still has potential to pollute a project entirely, and we already have methods of creating requirements and documentation for projects so this isn’t exactly the most useful thing ever.
I think that’s exactly what they’re implying. Use it to make a low effort disposable prototype, not scaffolding to expand from.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Screen size & your importance
2·7 months agoI feel it. I excitedly set up my side monitor in portrait mode for coding ages ago, but turns out I barely ever use it. Instead, I just use it for Discord or random youtube videos playing on the side while I do all my work on the main monitor…

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Dogs don't understand many words but they understand your voice tone and your body movements
2·8 months agoIt certainly depends on the dog.
I have two dogs and one clearly understands a certain degree of words, where as I think the other goes off of vibe. I can ask the golden if she wants water in a casual flat tone and she’ll look straight at her water bowl and ponder if she does.
Meanwhile, I can say “obbu do booboo?” in an excited upward inflection to the terrier and he thinks he’s getting a treat lol.
True enough! Mistakes are the best teacher. That said, I’m still making games in Javascript to this day, so I guess you can say I haven’t learned enough lol.
This is how I got into game development myself. I used to use Javascript to make dumb little interactive games in the early 2000s before it was ever meant to do such things, emulating what is now modern day HTML5 canvas and such
On the lower end of estimates, the number of unique chess board configurations is 10^120, often referred to as the Shannon number. The universe doesn’t stand a chance.

The web version of Office is so scuffed. I wouldn’t wish trying to do any serious Excel work with the web version on my worst enemy.
