  • Things feel weird, strange or unnatural because they go against instinctive feelings.

As for why they are more likely to go wrong it is quite simple. Two teenagers are more trouble than one teenager. Especially if they are in competition with each other. Jealousy is a key driver for violence and young men are the demographic generally most violent. These are things that you know subconsciously, as you have most likely experienced them yourself. As for negative experience with men and in particular men seeking sexual contact i think every women will be able to confirm danger and or having experienced abuse themselves. Now you have two rabbit-horny high on testosterone teenagers that have to “share” one teenage girl. This should cause an instinctive negative reaction by every parent.

As for studies which analyzed the situation where one men has multiple women concluded that these relationships negatively affect the women and their children psychologically.

    https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8667458/

Now this of course is different compared to a situation where one women has multiple men. A situation which seems to be much less prevalent and i couldnt find studies on quickly. As to why they are much less prevalent, this gives reason for even more worry. There is reason to believe them to be less stable and likely end up with violence, where women on average a physically much less stronger than men.

Being worried about such a set up, especially with teenagers, who are emotionally and physically underdeveloped, where things going wrong can have life long consequences (STDs, unwanted pregnancy, trauma from emotional/physical/sexual abuse), it is perfectly reasonable to be worried, without it having anything to do with puritanism or christian fascism. These consequences are already possible with a monogamous relationship and get more likely with poly relationships.

It should be the parental instinct to be worried about their teenagers getting romantically active and to watch out for their children, without directly preventing them from doing thing or forcing them into hiding. It is only logical that this instinct gets more worried if not one but two, or even more people that could be a threat to their child are involved.

    Increased exposure to STDs,
increased risk of emotional abuse (most grown adults fail with poly relations),
increased risk of physical abuse, especially with young men being hot headed and often hierarchy minded
increased risk of sexual abuse, “you are already dating two guys, why dont you want a threesome/gangbang, dont act like this” risk of pregnancy with denial by both potential fathers, or dispute about who takes the father role
increased risk to develop commitment issues (those are already prevalent enough in our times)

None of these have to manifest, but it is perfectly reasonable for a parent to have an instant gut feeling against this.

  • Much worse? I don’t think we are at the point to tell yet. The problem is also that the US has always acted in the way of a Fascist empire to the outside, which many US-Americans chose to be ignorant about. The US has murdered millions of people in Vietnam and surrounding countries, at least a million in Iraq and hundreds of thousands if not up to a million or two in South America since the 1950s. The US has fully supported the genocide and ethnic cleansing against millions of Palestinians under a “Democratic” president and people kept justifying to support him by arguing that a slow genocide is acceptable.

So the US started from a point that was worse than 1920 Germany, but only time will tell if the end point will be as bad as 1945 Germany.

  • Seriously. Trump is not some random disease that came out of nowhere. He is a symptom of a system that is fundamentally and severely ill and whose past power holders and power brokers have been reinforcing the system to become like this.

Even if you get rid of Trump now. Unless the system is fundamentally changed, which included removing all current elites from power and permanently barring them from it, another guy like Trump or maybe even worse will come to power.

Why could Trump sweep back in for a second presidency after four years of DNC rule? Because the DNC was ultimately happy with where Trump lead the country and they were happy to continue many of his policies, rather than giving Fascism the boot.

  • There is no level of productivity boost that can make up for months of actual absence lol

You are absent for half a year. After that you are 20% more productive. After three years the employer will have made a profit on that time investment.

Or you go back to work straight away, you are constantly tired, you are constantly stressed. You make mistakes causing delays and damages in the hundreds of thousands, that you would not make otherwise…

  • Aside from the obvious fact that you should ne there for your partner and child, paternity leave is both economically sound for your employer and the economy as a whole.

It will mean a healthier child with better relationships to his parents. This will improve his/her performance in school, reduce the likelyhood of problematic behaviour requiring interventions and later the likelyhood of criminal activity.

So your child will likely be a more productive and reliable grown up eventually and you will have less stress as parents, which also improves your productivity.

  • Because i can search by author, type of content, communities, timeframe and keywords.

But also i dont get your argument from the logical basis of it. Reddit did not write the Lemmy code. There is no relation as to why the reddit search function should be an indicator of how the lemmy search function works.

You are asking why George shouldnt also be better in math than Lisa, because Jon is better in math than Robert. Just that Lisa and Robert are in completely different schools in different countries.

  • This isn’t a destroy a corporation thing, it’s a make Lemmy win over Reddit thing.

I don’t think we will get any further here. If you cannot see why Lemmy should be more than just “win over Reddit” i dont think anything will convince you. The problems of enshittification are hitting all aspects of the Internet and companies like Google and Microsoft are a major part of it and undoubtedly more problematic than reddit.

Again as i said, we should not focus on destroying corporations or any other external negative thing, but instead on building a positive version of the internet, so focus on a positive internal goal. Cooperating with the organizations who fundamentally oppose this vision of the internet is not going to help that.

  • Duckduckgo uses Bing for its index, so we run into the same problem with Microsoft.

Think about the steps involved. First Lemmy servers make all data available to these companies. Now these companies can exploit this data fully. But the next step, it leading to lemmy results being featured on their website is no guarantee. They can just keep it low.

And i dont care about Lemmy being larger than reddit. It is not just about reddit. It is about fundamentally creating a space thriving for a positove vision of how the internet should be. Handing influence to Google and Microsoft is fundamentally opposed to that.

Finally, reddit is destroying itself. Why should we compromise ourselves, when we can just watch reddit burning itself down, while more and more people join us?

  • I’d rather have a stable growth and these resources being accessible to the community, than to have google make money off of it, who is actively engaged in destroying open spaces and enshittify them.

Google doesnt care for traffic to Lemmy. Google cares for making money off the data they can grab. Not giving them the data directly is the only way to oppose them.

Your idea is to finance the war by selling weapons to your enemy, to use this metaphor of yours.

Naah. There is plenty of Gen X, Y, Z who know and plenty of Millenials who dont.

Its just if you wanted to “do stuff with computers” you had to develop some understanding back then.

Today you can “do stuff” like gaming much easier out of the box. So not everyone who “does stuff” knows his way around.

In the office most colleagues of all generations just know how to do their specific things, mostly in MS Office products.

  • I think we are looking at this from different angles. I think you are looking at the programmer perspective, and i am looking at the end-user perspective, who uses a GUI file explorer.

In the case of a GUI file explorer the search handles the case insensitivity. So for me using Dolphin in KDE if i have two files:

TEST.txt and test.txt, if i type “tes” on my keyboard, i will be given the uppercase one first. if i type “te” again, it jumps to the next fitting entry, which is test.txt. If i put “test” or “TEST” in the search bar, i will get back both results.

I see why a strictly case insensitive file system makes it easier for programmers down the line to not have to handle the different cases explicitly in their program anymore.
