  • Space is everywhere, and it’s stretching. It isn’t expanding per say, it’s that everything that is everywhere is getting further apart.

You’re thinking of space stretching like an inflated balloon, and that’s a decent analogy but it’s far more simplistic than reality. If there is some cosmic boundary it would divide everything that is and exists, and the absence of any existence. It’s a boundary which light itself could not escape, and all future points of time exist only within that boundary. All of space time would fold back in on itself.

Imagine standing at that boundary and firing an arrow, a thought experiment first described by Lucretius in Pompeii 2000 years ago. He imagined that if he fired an arrow from the edge, then clearly the universe kept going, and if it hit something, then clearly something must exist on the other side.

But the arrow can only fall back in towards the universe at some such theoretical boundary. Because all points in time exist within that boundary.

Which is very similar to a black hole. Which is why some cosmologists have suggested that maybe we live inside one.

  • There’s gotta be a mod for that, right?

Up until whatever came after Black Flag I was a die hard AC fan. Midnight releases and everything. And I’ll admit, the modern day sections are bad and jarring and completely unnecessary. At some point you’re a game developer wandering around an office and it’s obvious they had no idea what to do with those sections, because at that point the modern day story had been told. There was a brief cameo from some of the people you would remember from earlier games but it never got to the level of intrigue from 1-3.

Though an assassin’s creed game set in like modern day Manhattan could be fun. Watchdogs got kinda close to that before going completely off the rails.

I try to be pretty understanding, I know a lot of Lemmy users aren’t speaking English as their first language and honest mistakes are going to happen.

That idiot was an American. Or a very well crafted caricature of some Americans.

Hey my grandpa served in WW2 too! You and I have that in common. And what I mean by that is the deeds or misdeeds of our forebares contribute nothing meaningful to our individual value as people. That is entirely up for you and I to do. It’s cool that you’re proud of him, but you’re also descended from a lot of other people that did both cool and horrifying shit. It doesn’t matter that they did it, you didn’t. For good or bad, you are judged by your deeds alone.

  • How do you think Moses crossed it asshole? By waiving his arms around?? No. He built a land bridge of old car batteries that collapsed as soon as they crossed. Trapping the Egyptian army in an acidic brine that melted their faces off.

Jesus it’s like you’ve never seen Indiana Jones
