It’s probably not even clear to most Lemmy users that the [] for images in markdown are where you put the alt text.

I certainly just learned something new!

I think it’s a design issue.

When you add an image, the alt-text box pops up near the bottom of the page (it is not visible before you add an image). If you’re not looking for it/aware of it, it’s easy to miss. I don’t post a ton of image posts for example, so if I did one it stands to reason I might forget if I was too quick to post.

The alt-text box should really pop up right below the image, above where you input the body of the post, not farther down the page. In fact it could always be there but just be greyed out until an image is added.

This question is basically tailor made for the UK.

On reddit if a post was deleted I could still interact with the thread, even if the content of the post itself was gone.

So it was a bit more elegant, imho, as it allows continued discussion and being able to link to the thread without it being completely nuked.

I also think that set expectations for how people expected it to work here, where the post contents and author would be nuked but the thread could still be accessed by hotlink.

These would have to be added to Lemmy development, because currently I can delete a post of my own on a community on another instance and there isn’t a technical way to prevent it. Reporting and banning for behavior is tricky too unless you manage to remember the username of who posted it.

So, that’s an uphill battle at the development level and the moderation level.

How is it easier to delete a post every time than to set preferences to not be emailed just once, then you never have to again?

Also my instance disabled downvoting so I don’t do that.

I think the mods/admins would have more accurate info on how often it’s happening.

It doesn’t make sense, either. There’s no rational reason to delete a thread after the question has been answered.

Even if it wasn’t actually a person but was an AI agent asking questions so it can scrape the data from the answers, there’s no real utility in deleting the posts after receiving responses. It just seems so weird.

depends on what you mean by “private.” when you run your own server, you by default have access to all the backend information on the server, since you’re the admin.

anyone who joins yours will not have privacy in respect to you, because you’ll be able to see what they do on the backend.

just as any other person’s server you join will see your activity.

You might be surprised to find out that atheism is probably over-represented here on Lemmy and is probably the dominant “belief” as opposed to traditional religion.

One aspect of this is that you’ll see that religion in general is not exactly well respected among the userbase. You might just want to alter your expectations, because it’s not anti-catholicism as much as it is anti-religion in general.
