For most animals yes, but bees (the topic at hand) are different because their land use overlaps with other kinds rather than displacing it. The competition with native insects is a real problem but not necessarily more of a problem than honey alternatives.

It’s kind of a wolf/dog situation. Yeah they’re the same species but domestic turkeys wouldn’t do well in the wild. They get too big to fly.
They’re against domestic animals as a concept, so you’d think.
Except the great many vegans who keep pets, as if that was somehow different.
Also, there’s a distinct difference between normal and brooding behavior. A broody hen gives a shit about her eggs (well, not specifically her eggs just the concept of sitting on and hatching eggs) but if they aren’t fertilized it rapidly becomes a problem. And they’ll lay another in a day or two regardless.
That’s a valid position, but it applies equally to most kinds of land use. Agave plantations are not less ecologically problematic. Agriculture has an impact.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an often hated movie/show/game that you experienced, that made you go "I get the hate, but I don't hate it myself"? And how much did you tolerate it?English
331·2 days agoI like the Super Mario Bros movie, I don’t care how loosely connected it is to the games.

5·5 days agoBetter crumple zones and airbags are most of the advances in safety compared to 60 years ago. Traction control and anti-lock brakes are pretty rad too. Automatic braking and lane assist account for some though I think they’re a net detriment, training drivers to be less attentive (this is somewhat supported by the rise in pedestrian deaths).
All the spyware and extra shit is pure downside. Mandatory internal face tracking is fucking maddening and I shan’t be cooperating with such overreach. Nothing newer than like 2014, maybe an import from a different market without them.

1·9 days agoI’ve had two styles I liked, a lambic and a Berliner weiss. They aren’t really “beer” the way most people think of it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What drink tastes awful but somehow people still act like it's amazing?English
1·9 days agoBecause it’s easy to make compared to other styles. Better profit margins and a good way for a new brewery to get their foot in the door. It’s also the first “craft beer” most people try so there’s a culture/image factor.

1·9 days agoI’m the opposite. Sucralose and aspartame are fine to my palate but stevia and monkfruit sweeteners are horrid and I can taste them through everything if they’re the primary sweetener.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you still use the cashier at grocery stores?English
2·18 days agoDepends on what I’m getting. Small stuff, maybe 8 items, no produce codes? Self checkout mostly. Alcohol or anything else that requires a cashier step in to approve it? Original recipe.
The “whole modern art movement”? I’m not disputing the CIA’s history of nefarious dealings or infiltrating groups to put their thumb on the scale, but the scope of that claim exceeds even COINTELPRO.
What they did was support a movement already in place because they felt it helped against Communism somehow. (And the USSR was doing pretty much the same thing the other direction) And it’s not like they’re signing a bunch of checks “CIA” and handing them out to artists and organizers, it was soft support through foundations and museums and stuff. It doesn’t detract from their work. It kinda sounds like you half-watched one YouTube video.
They only need to convince like 200 million people to their specific ideals, piece of cake.
We aren’t talking about Democrats.
That’s a dishonest oversimplification of Gloria Steinem’s situation, and you’re going to have to elaborate on Pollock. (But it sounds like you’re already biased against him too far to be objective, dismissing his contributions to modern art)
The key is finding 3 or 4 other adults that understand the value of consistency. I’ve been in a weekly game since before COVID and we simply don’t make other plans on that day. No “eh, it’s just D&D I can skip it to go to the movies”. No grief for legitimate reasons to miss a session (but we try to do a replacement activity to keep the schedule rhythm) because we all trust the rest to take the commitment seriously.
There’s people with children in the group who make it work. If you can’t handle a weekly game you just don’t want to do it enough. It’s not a matter of convenience.

I don’t share your principles but I have to respect them, it’s nice to see a consistent position instead of carving out self-serving allowances.
