Kind of like how parking far to one side of a parking spot puts all onus of creating enough space for people to get out of their car on the next person.
It’s passing the buck because you can’t be bothered to clean up after yourself.

Zorque@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What popular TV show did not do it for you and you quit watching?English1·18 days agoThe Orville had that in the first season or so, after that it went heavy into serialization. I dont think I even finished whatever the last season was because of it.

Speaking of highly overrated things…
Zorque@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What popular TV show did not do it for you and you quit watching?English11·19 days agoBattlestar Galactica. Like a lot of the shows people have been mentioning, all it did was raise the stakes every episode. It didn’t feel like it was building anything meaningful, just building up to something.
The most meaningful example of this (spoilers for like a twenty year old show) for me was when they’re in the ship looking for water or whatever and the human cylon just ignores the indicator saying “Water here! Check here!” and the scene just. keeps. going. I swear it felt like half the episode.

Zorque@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What popular TV show did not do it for you and you quit watching?English25·19 days agoI miss when shows could just grow in the first season or two, and then you’d only get raising stakes two or three times a year (season finale/premier and sweeps). Otherwise they’re just stories.
These days shows have to justify themselves right out of the gate.

We still have some semblance of democracy, no matter how often people are screaming that it’s all lost already (like yourself). We still have options, just because so many people choose not to consider them doesn’t mean they don’t exist, it just means it takes more effort than lighting a bottle of alcohol with a rag in it on fire and tossing it at the people you blame for all your inconveniences.
Yes, we have a problem at the federal level, and yes it’s going to be hard to fix it. But it’s not the only thing that matters, and treating it like it is is how we’ve lost so much ground already. People gave up long ago because everyone keeps telling them their thoughts don’t matter, that everything is already broken and there’s no way to fix it. Not because it’s true, because it’s the easiest way to get people to stop resisting effectively.
You want people to do something meaningful? Stop backing them into a corner by telling them they have no options left. Cause as we’ve seen already it just means they give up.
Zorque@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•RFK JR just told us Elon Musk can't use the toilet unassistedEnglish31·22 days agoThat we think in absolutes, and either are hyper violent or apathetic, both of which lead to no real resolution? Yeah, definitely a real problem.
Zorque@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•RFK JR just told us Elon Musk can't use the toilet unassistedEnglish56·22 days agoIf you organize that many people you can get what you want without resorting to a form of violence that will really only create a power vacuum, not a better future.
Violence is just cheap and easy, as long as you don’t have to think about the consequences of your actions.

Zorque@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why can't California and New York make their own medicare for all?English8·1 month agoMedicaid, which services those with disabilities or who are below an income threshold. At least that’s what I get from the wikipedia page.
If there’s limited criteria for getting it, it’s not “medicare for all”, yeah?

You don’t just flip it on and off. It’s more like a snowball rolling down a hill. It starts small, but if it keeps up momentum, it ends up burying a small town.
