I am a trans woman. There are a lot of armed right wingers that would love to see me dead. They can try, but I’m not going to give them an easy time of it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My GF gave me one afternoon to fix this, what do i doEnglish
18·25 days agoIt’s possible that noise and popping you hear is the steam in the radiator flashing back and forth from steam to condensation. It means the condensate isn’t draining properly. This is not a problem you can fix yourself. You need to tell the building manager, who needs to hire a pipefitter. If you try to do this yourself, there is a high likelihood that you will damage something beyond your ability to repair, and you could very well seriously burn yourself while you’re at it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anti-AI people, did you ever like AI? If so, when did you stop?English
10·1 month agoI was initially impressed when ChatGPT and Midjourney came out and I was playing around with them. But the novelty quickly wore off, and as I learned more about the flaws in how they operate and the negative environmental effects, the more I came to dislike it. Now, I actively hate and avoid AI.

7·1 month agoI wouldn’t say trades are king, just that they’re more in demand than some of the more popular degrees in recent years, like CS.
An engineering or technology degree in a trades-adjacent field could be really beneficial, especially for someone how already has relevant hands-on experience. Something like controls, building automation, etc, might be a really good option for OP to build on what they already know

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do all you coders actually do?English
1·2 months agoI’m an energy engineer, so coding isn’t the main part of job, but I use Python a lot for data analysis. So I load CSV files and reformat the data into how a particular program or person wants it. I also dabble with SQL and PowerShell for configuring data pipelines, basically picking a subset of data out of a database and using PowerShell to automate that extraction and the upload to a server.
