The occasional ETAOIN SHRDLU :)
My mom worked for a small paper as a linotype operator around the late 60s to early 70s. :)

Yeah, but we’re so much luckier today with options online. I remember there were definitely tiers of the comics and I read them in a particular order, from the crappy soap-opera one that wasn’t funny through (oh I’m gonna piss people off now) the also-crappy ones like Family Circus and Marmaduke and… was it called Love Is? They were always so hokey… then saving ones like Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes for last :)
I did the same thing with food which is why I’m still fat. :(

Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture
Ah, but do you know PDQ Bach - 1712 Overture?

Ghost in the Shell SAC OST
I’m in dialysis three times per week for four hours and I listen to this every time. It’s relaxing, and if I doze off, when I wake up, I know about where I am by what’s playing.

When I was young, I thought following the rules and procedures was how you got ahead.
Now I realize that while those are not unimportant, what’s more important is figuring out how things actually get done and use those processes to get things done. To also help out those who need help getting things done where you can so that they’ll help you. It’s always amazed me how much people just get shit done regardless of rules and policies.
Also, document everything to make sure can show what you contributed and show that you did your part. If someone like a boss asks you to do something that’s not according to written procedures, follow up with an email - “Just wanted to confirm we spoke about X and you told me to do Y” type of thing.
Work will drop you like a hot potato if they decide to let you go. All that extra work you put in unpaid - nobody will remember it, even if they remember it, it’s not worth all of that time. You don’t have to totally “act your wage” and do the minimum, but do NOT expend extra energy without tangible reward like overtime pay.
You can be friendl with people from work, but work is not your friend, neither are they your family. It is an arrangement whereby you give them energy, labour et cetera in exchange for pay.

But what if you really need a cis admin?

Lana!
…LANA!
(wait, I think I misunderstood) ;-)

Especially when attached to mousetraps.

I’m… not going to argue with someone basically reiterating the same exact things I’m saying.

Yes, you have accurately characterized what I said and didn’t miss any of it in the slightest. Well done, you. Congrats on not completely missing the entire point. I am honestly impressed by the complete lack of comprehension. Nicely done.

Microsoft officially introduced a native sudo command for Windows with the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26052, which was announced on February 8, 2024.
That, to me, is “recently”. :)

If you use the formatting bar to format text, it unlocks the View→Markdown menu which has two options - Markdown or Syntax. This allows you to toggle seeing the source or formatted markdown.
If you do not use the formatting bar to format text, markdown is not enabled. I manually typed in text in markdown format and the menu didn’t un-grey.
You can go into the app settings and turn off formatting, which will hide the formatting toolbar.
I think you really have to work hard to be offended by this.
Additionally, for those Notepad Purists™ who are offended by any features being added… Tabs are handy. And having it auto-save drafts and auto-open them is also handy - for me. Maybe you don’t like that, but you can disable the auto-save in settings. Can’t turn off tabs, but you can set it to open in new windows, so pretty close to disabling that.
If this is what drives you over the edge to use Linux… okay, bud, have it your way - and I’m a Linux enthusiast, so I’m all for it. But being pissed off by something you have to specifically enable seems a bit silly to me. It’s the hallmark of fascism - “Other people have the right to exist! FUCK THAT!” - a little hyperbolic, but the principle is vaguely the same. :P (And what’s the internet without hyperbole? :) )

Interesting timing since there is sudo in one of the latest Windows preview builds…

I’m so very glad my dad can go for cruises, but I’m so tired of hearing about them. heh

Holidays. I’m 50 and I have absolutely come to hate them. Can’t really afford to celebrate or get gifts, so I resent them for existing and I hate hearing about others’ pleasant experiences with them.

Perfect breasts.
Also, you ARE the Brute Squad.
I assume this is what getting old feels like is all. We rolled our eyes at the adults who rolled their eyes at things we said that were “cool”. And now we roll our eyes at the young kids (who are in their 30s now). heh
