.Donuts@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you tag people in Lemmy?English10·1 day ago
I tag people that never fail to find something to argue about, obvious trolls, bad faith / sea lion conversationalists and so on. If I encounter them again and they show the same behaviour as a pattern, I fully block them.
I also use it for more fun stuff, like who is overly helpful, friendly or who recommended a good book. This way, if I see them again I get reminded of the positive interaction from before
edit: @OmegaLemmy@discuss.online you might want to replace “tag” with “label” or something, people think you mean username @tagging and don’t read the body of your post

I’ve never asked ChatGPT to fix a syntax error because I use Copilot
If you are going to be this pedantic, I’ll have you know Copilot is a ChatGPT model in a Microsoft skin.

.Donuts@lemmy.worldto Formula 1@lemmy.world•2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix - [RACE] discussion thread 🏎️English2·1 month agoAs a Dutchie I feel this, whenever the feed glitches and it resets, it defaults to Dutch and it’s a race to turn it back to the English feed before I cringe at the commentary.
You could try listening to the other English feed, there’s nothing like Croft and Brundle imo even though they are very likely to talk a lot about Hamilton and Norris
.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are Lemmy sorting types just broken?English4·1 month agoThanks! That clears up a lot. Appreciate the paraphrasing too.
You’re making assumptions about how they work based on your intuition
Small difference: I made the assumption that the simplified version was exactly how it works, as in, taking the comment at face value.
.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are Lemmy sorting types just broken?English7·1 month agoIt’s starting to make sense, thanks. I’ll try to keep scaled to my subscriptions, although I like “All” for the variety.
.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are Lemmy sorting types just broken?English4·1 month agoBut 0 upvotes divided by any age is still 0. So Hot = 0, and Scaled would then be 0 divided by community size, and therefore also still 0.
On hot, I guess you managed to open it with the exact same second?
It was in response to “Scaled is like Hot”, so I wasn’t looking at the Hot page at that moment, but I tried to convey how it doesn’t make sense that a post with 0 upvotes get to the top of Scaled
.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are Lemmy sorting types just broken?English81·1 month agoBut these are 3 posts with 0 upvotes that recently have been posted, how is that “Hot”, let alone at the top of “Hot”?
I think it would be counterintuitive to cater to a small percentage of people who 1) didn’t see it live and 2) are bothered by knowing the results early.
I think it would be more beneficial for users to take matters into their own hands.
For example, you can create another account and block the Formula 1 and Formuladank communities so you can browse without the risk of getting spoiled by a post going by your feed.
Then when you’ve seen it, switch back to your main.
I agree with the premise of not going on social media when you haven’t seen the race yet and don’t want to be spoiled.
But, there is a big difference between finding time for three minutes of social media scrolling and watching 90 minutes of cars zooming around.
You can easily get spoiled for scrolling past a post on here that got into your feed.
But yeah, i still agree with the main stance. Don’t go on social media if you don’t want to be spoiled what the results are going to be. It’s really in your own hands.
.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone feel like "Hot" is like "New" in a trenchcoat?English3·1 month agoCan’t do that at work here. Also, I realize 99% of it is AI generated, so I’m not really interested
.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone feel like "Hot" is like "New" in a trenchcoat?English2·1 month agoThanks for your service, this makes this website a better place 🫡
.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone feel like "Hot" is like "New" in a trenchcoat?English11·1 month agoDo yourself a favor and starting blocking users (bots) and communities you will never be interested in. After a while, your feed starts getting a lot cleaner and more interesting.
The internet is too noisy to read everything, so tailor the content to stuff you will engage with for a happier experience!
edit: oh you said “not logged in”, which might mean that you already blocked the bot on your account. Still, the advice stands for anyone reading along

.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone feel like "Hot" is like "New" in a trenchcoat?English7·1 month agoI had a feeling it was something like that, this makes sense, thanks. Would you recommend a different sorting method?

.Donuts@lemmy.worldOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone feel like "Hot" is like "New" in a trenchcoat?English18·1 month agoYeah, like certain communities have more eyes on them (so more upvotes) and they automatically dominate the feed, even with a flurry of fresh posts.
