in what way can an AI be tortured? start with defining torture, its relationship to living beings, and then try to translate that to a piece of software. software, fyi, has no a priori, or even posteriori, emotion; for it cannot have emotion.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do Germans have a long convoluted word for when somebody asks something and you first say "What?" but then immediately answer their question anyway as if your mouth was quicker than your brain?
1·8 days agoi too remember getting a fishbowl in the 90’s at applebee’s in the mall, then going to a movie, and then hoping by the time your movie was done you’d be sober enought to drive home.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Only 3 months away, what do you think 2027 will bring us?
32·15 days agoi hope nuclear war.
i am in 100% the same boat my friend. same salaries too. nobody tells you credit and spending makes a terrible way to “be happy” when you are poor and “oh shit another thing broke? there goes the light bill…”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it ethical for companies to manufacture products that easily break, if they have the ability to make them less breakable?
8·21 days agono, of course it’s not. but ethics for the worker and consumer do not exist under capitalism. only for the shareholder.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you died tonight and people had to sort out your stuff, what would be the weirdest, most unexplainable trinket in your possession?
3·23 days agoi cleaned out my uncle’s apartment room because of similar thoughts. he passed from heroin. did not want grandma to see that stuff. so i cleaned it up. along with his copy of “girls who eat girls”. such an odd name for a porno.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Property taxes should be proportional to the number of homes you own
11·1 month agoagain - a huttie or small camp site type thing is not a second home that im talking about. i would not consider that a 2nd home.
a place on the mountains in a vacation town on a culdesac with a hoa that you visit for a month each year is what im talking about. far far diff.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Property taxes should be proportional to the number of homes you own
15·1 month agono. “cant really live in” means “needs work to go from 3 seasons to 4.” and then be sold to someone who needs a home.
otherwise it’s a campsite not a “2nd home.”

no. at 100% mil rate. ie: its value. every year.
if you can’t afford it, then sell it to someone who needs a home. :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?
48·1 month agowas doing a building search of a flooding (from water leak) multi story building and as i was looking around the living room, i felt “time to move to next room” and yeah glad i did. ceiling fell in the living room as i rounded the corner.

that doesn’t answer my question.
