Does your cooperative have a website? I’m always interested to discover more co-ops.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the modern design trends you hate most?
2·1 year agoThe problem is that when we rely on capitalist companies to produce the software we rely on, they will reduce cost as much as possible. This leads to them not wanting to pay for separate teams to develop native desktop applications on Windows, macOS or Linux.
While I hate Electron apps as well, they are how Linux became much more able to run these proprietary apps society depends on. We know the capitalist companies wound’t invest in native Linux software, as the user base is too small.
On iOS I’m using OutRun. It provides basic activity tracking, which is what I care about. I don’t need a social network.
It’s open source: https://github.com/timfraedrich/OutRun

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Open source projects are too dogmatic for their own good
3·1 year agoProprietary software is also really dogmatic. Steve Jobs famously didn’t support flash on the iPhone, there also was no direct access to files/file system in the UI for a very long time. Tim Cook told someone’s Mom to just buy an iPhone to access iMessage. There’s too many user hostile dogmatic positions from Apple.
I think this has nothing to do with open source vs proprietary, but rather specific individuals having power/control over the software to force specific decisions.
So far all the European digital sovereignty talk doesn’t mention mobile operating systems which are 100% controlled by the US. EU identity, banking, and even the new Wero payment app only works on iOS and Android.
