This is frustrating to read. I used Duolingo over ten years ago, and was going to use it again to get back into some things, but now what? It seems that it is not what I remember it being. I only used it on a computer, and probably would now.

I am not sure about fashion, but I have found that repairing clothing is pretty cheap. Even if you pay a tailor to do so. Maybe patches can be fashionable but I just don’t want my toe to catch that little knee hole and create a problem.

I really like savory oatmeal, and I mostly do it with fish and fennel. Great meal any time of day.

Peanut butter mac is pretty good, too.

Another vote for the cheese and jam! Sweet and salty. I like it in a tortilla.

This was in the USA, but a long time ago. The cops were going to get a warrant supposedly but I had rented from that person for some time, in different units, and I think they made a judgement call knowing that is was going to happen, and if they approved I wouldn’t have to follow up on the warrant. That particular landlord was actually really great. I’m not sure if they made the right decision but I didn’t have to go to court or anything, which I would have if a warrant to search was made.

I have an uncle who was an attorney who lives in Philadelphia and did a lot of work on tenant’s rights in the 70s, but this was in a different state and definitely didn’t have as great a situation. Maybe it is better now.

I worked in a high school for a number of years where my role was to manage things like after school programming, spring break trips, and certain things during the school day. We would also do weekend adventure trips when possible. At one point during this, I had an awful roommate who was into a lot of illicit substances.

During my time living with said roommate, I took students on a two night backpacking trip over the weekend. I came back to see that my room had been (from my perspective) ransacked. I could not reach my roommate, and decided that one of their drug buddies may have robbed me. Later that evening, roommate came back and I learned them and a friend got too wild, cops were called, and a search was performed on the entire apartment. Including my room. Nothing was found in my room, but I had a lot of putting away to do. At least I was not robbed, I guess.

My landlord called me the next day to tell me they were called by cops for consent because I was unreachable, and landlord knew I would have nothing to hide, but felt terrible and began immediate eviction on roommate.

The important thing is tension, for the thread to be tight. If you can do this, happy engineering! My similar machine, tension on the string is hard, more with a longer length/step.

I am not an engineer, either 🤔 I see your front picture, my machine is similar. I would not be able to change anything myself. As @gadfly1999@lemm.ee mentioned, these really are highly engineered. If you change one thing, you must change everything.

I understand you know how to change the step length that can be changed now, yes? You say <2mm to 5mm. My very similar machine can go to almost 10mm but it cannot keep the thread very tight. This is the limiting thing, the machine, every part, is designed for sewing a length of 2-8mm or whatever. A longer stitch step would need a complete change and probably a stronger motor.

By moving the knob or lever that changes the stitch step length, you will see what is going on.

If you want to have a longer “step,” you will probably need a larger machine. The limit of that length factors in things like the max thread size and how much tension the machine can maintain. Your machine is for sewing clothes, the longer stitch lengths will be for a more decorative use and would not be durable as a main support stitch.

Agreed. Except for one time last fall, I knew it was going to happen and did it anyway, thru the company’s website. That one company had their own portal and everything, didn’t know it came from amazon until it arrived 🤷 I’ll do it again! If I was selling stuff I am sure I would have to look at these few options out there.

Great point. The limited times I have purchased from Amazon in recent history was accidentally in this manner. I think that purchasing directly from the creator’s/company’s website might send a message that some folks would like an alternative, but I don’t know that. Either way, it is less amazon.

I’ve had a body high from a poo, it is pretty remarkable, but the lead up was different and not something I want to repeat. Maybe I will try some Italian food!

Eating a spicy meal that is at my max tolerance such that I can continue to eat as normal. I can get a high from that 🥵😋

When I was a teenager, I worked in a garden department of a store. We had plants to water. The pipes for the water had shutoffs in the ceiling in addition to the faucets themselves. I was working over the weekend and needed to water the plants, but no water would come out. The ceiling shutoffs were open, but I had heard there was a master shutoff just inside the store.

So I went in and was looking around on the walls, following pipes, and found this very large pipe with a shutoff on it. It had a tag hanging on it that said “emergency test” but my teen brain thought this meant it had been tested and passed inspection.

I turned it on and went outside, only to find an enormous amount of water coming out a different pipe, some kind of drain. Not what I wanted! When I reentered the store, the fire alarm was going off, but I thought nothing of it, shut the valve, and went about my business. By the time I got back outside, the fire department was there.

About 15 minutes later, fire folks in full gear were in my area poking around with the boss. I asked what happened, and they said for some reason there was a pressure drop in the sprinkler system and it triggered an automatic response 😬 I told them what I did, and they said they were too old for this, and then left. Not a great decision for me that day…
