I thought it just entailed manipulation, not the self interest part, so you’re probably right.

Yeah every time I bring up trump saying things like “I am currently breaking the law spending campaign funds to pay off a pornstar” the most common right wing response is “that sounds like fake news, the media hates trump.” As I am actively trying to show them the court documents quoting him. They don’t care what actually is true, trump just passes the vibe check for “says republican things.”
I think my friend just doesn’t know a lot about it and assumes one side can’t just be doing completely insane stuff, and if trump constantly broke the law then of course he would be in jail, so if he isn’t in jail the stuff couldn’t be that bad. He would probably be a non-voter which in this case was essentially a vote for trump unfortunately.

Thats probably because the vegans you’ve met in the world go outside lol

I’ve never heard it as a vegan with a couple vegan friends, only by some very angry people on lemmy. I just say he’s is/is not vegetarian and that’s descriptive enough.

5 years ago he had the beginnings of a plan. I think now we may be on introductions of the beginning.

I have a friend who says this and every time I’m like “when did anyone on the left do anything close to as bad as ____” (DOJ lying constantly, trump saying officials who oppose him should be executed, etc) and every time he says “well if they’re doing that that’s pretty messed up but the left does bad stuff too.”
I heard that kids really do have more taste sensitivity towards bitterness, so that could be why.

This is probably my #1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crispbread Either plain or with low calorie butter
Good suggestions for snacks but I think a lot of people missed the “when I want to shove something in my face as a force of habit.” You really want to get the lowest calorie thing possible, ideal would be lettuce and celery since those are basically nothing but still give you something to eat. Next would probably be apple slices, berries have surprisingly low sugar, egg white is basically pure protein but a full egg is fine too. Sprouts can be good if you grow them right. I sometimes just slowly eat a spoonful of peanut butter over like an hour but…
I would also recommend having random drinks you can go between, like tea soymilk coffee, even diet soda. Just avoid anything with sugar or fat. Things like nuts are healthy but not a great constant snack food because they do have a lot of fat, so that should be an intentional thing rather than something to reach for.

Basically a Calvin and hobbes shitpost comm

This only works if you really like the process and you’re motivated to keep going. I am kind of like that and I still need SOME stuff I’m not totally lost in to feel like I’m not just going insane. Plus you learn so much stuff along the way that if that’s your actual passion project you’re going to have to redo anything anyway.

I used to watch Destiny, and while I still like that he does tons of research and shows people why maga talking points are wrong, I started noticing more and more I hate being around people who really care about their ego. He would be having a discussion with someone and instead of saying hm that’s partially true but here’s what I think could be missing, he says NO that is WRONG! It’s such a massive waste of time to care about “winning” a debate, both people learn less and get more angry. I’ve noticed this with basically everyone who gets successful streaming, they kinda lock in at the age they were when they got successful.

I actually had to realize this because I kept making “good enough” solutions that I told myself I would change later and then never did, until I got so frustrated that it made me stop working on it. Good enough is a big problem if it’s good enough that you never really need to change it.

This is what makes it feel pretty unfair to me, because many people that’s just not their personality. What if the person I really want to be is someone pleasant to be around but MOST people wouldn’t really want to date? I.e. being really esoteric, being quieter, really standing up for what they believe in (to the point where it’s annoying for 99% of people), whatever.
I know many people like that and I’m like yeah this person is nice fun to be around and pretty cool, but they’re too extreme in one way or another. Don’t get me wrong they COULD still find someone, but if you’re weird/different then your pool is a little reduced, and if you don’t want to be the center of attention it’s reduced multiplicatively. It’s like them being nice and pleasant and being the best version of themselves is great, but it can still be really really difficult for them to find someone.

Sure, but at the same time all of the worst comments I’ve seen have been from instances that were mainly linked to from reddit i.e. lemmy.world. Like, rage inducing misinformation. I prefer the much higher quality of discussions on lemmy which I would rarely see on reddit, but it is tiring seeing linux lotr star trek politics be 99.9% of the content / discussions…
