I prefer to just delete the whole .git and start a new repository with the new version. We are pivoting the project, new name and new repo

I’m guessing not - Google probably wants the data for itself.
Does this apply to Android studio?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Anyone else live somewhere that has had people joining in a WiFi naming joke?
3·2 months agoOne of our neighbours has his set to “SAPS Surveillance Van” - “SAPS”, South African Police Services.
Ours is named after my son’s YouTube channel… free advertising!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a personal weakness you possess that is entirely not relevant to your daily life?
2·3 months agoAs someone who uses GitHub everyday, I don’t think about the layout at all. The uploading, downloading, version control etc is all done with terminal commands or desktop tools. So separate from the website (but my code still ends up on there).
If I ever have to go to GitHub.com in a browser it’s only to copy a repository URL and I always marvel at how ugly and convoluted that website looks.
Not anti theft but every now and again I have to restart my phone because of anti swipe protection. I just can’t find the setting to disable it.
It’s always fun when you have to hack your own device to do something.
Haven’t tried the YouTube app for years, but watch the content all the time - using newpipe/pipepipe and freetube/Kodi. I usually just “subscribe” to a few channels and stick to those

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you hold your breath during underwater scenes in movies?
3·4 months agoI actually passed out during the little mermaid opening scene
My nickname in junior school was “stinky” which probably tells you all you need to know. Grew up poor, primary caregiver had mental health issues and financial troubles meant electricity for hot water was not a regular thing…
I don’t remember exactly but my mom who actually worked and did her best those days to support us would have made sure I was bathed on the weekends at least. So one week tops.
I’m still paying for the lack of regular teeth cleaning in my youth. Nowadays I’m pretty fastidious about hygiene, and showering regularly!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your favorite Saturday morning cartoon(s) as a kid?
5·6 months agoGummy Bears!
Just looked it up now and am pleasantly surprised it still rates a 7.5 on IMDB so I wasn’t necessarily watching complete tat 😁 https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0088528/

Personally the greatest satisfaction for me is the things I only achieved through years of hard work that no-one can take away from me. I learned a ton of circus skills that I use to earn a living and that makes me happy because actually it was fun learning anyway. I guess I’m saying do what you love even if you have to live in a tent for years it’s worth it in the end

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are kids playing today? What came after Minecraft/Roblox?
10·7 months agoMy son plays Fortnite in addition to the other two. I don’t know of any other games that offer the wide choice and peer interaction that Minecraft, Fortnite and Roblox offer.
He mainly watches streamers who play those games
This meme made me feel better about myself. Been copy pasting from Stack overflow for more than a decade, vibe coding was a real step up for me.
Not quite there yet, still waiting on the holographic AI hardware design. Coming soon I hear.
Spaghetti with tomato and avocado. Add some olive oil, sunflower seeds and a bit of cheese if you are feeling rich. *Avocado is really cheap where I live, you can literally get them for free
Picking stuff up with my toes. I use the two big ones like chopsticks or just scrunch something up with all of them together. My toes can spread out as wide as my fingers, so it’s easy to manipulate things with them. Also, I am very well balanced on one leg, probably because of doing this for so long.
This power is more and more useful as I get older and find it more of a chore to bend over, with my beer belly getting in the way (I’m almost 50, it’s a sign of success!). If it’s below my waist I’m going to pick it up with my foot 50% basically.
I live in a warm climate and hardly ever wear closed shoes luckily, I know some places it wouldn’t be practical…
My mum was a librarian for 20 years. Benefits include:
Getting to read all the books before anyone else. Nobody complains if you are reading at work. No library fines for overdue books and no limit on how many books you can take out. Quiet work environment.
I actually did an internship at the library - wonder how I manage to organise that - there is a large amount of repetitive manual labour involved as I recall it, mostly handled by the junior staff
Does anyone else feel ill when seeing some AI images? It’s like an out of tune piano for me

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•It's my 54th BD, left a $83K IT job last summer, interviewing at Lowe's tomorrow. Is it weird I'm looking forward to it?
4·11 months agoI dropped out of the IT game before I even started (dropped out of an IT qualification 20yrs ago), and can honestly say it was totally worth it.
Now I spend some happy evenings working on IT side projects related to my main career (entertainment) and it’s fun. I even make extra cash doing freelance programming but because it’s not my main hustle I get to choose to say no.
What I’m saying is while you are at the hardware doing what you enjoy, there is nothing stopping you from doing freelance IT work on the side, just look for the projects that inspire you. It’s not all or nothing decision…

Or 3 branches…
