Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there really a technology difference between Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11 ?
3·9 days agoI just dont get why I would ever use Vortex when Mod Organizer 2 exists? It does a better job, with a better UI and less jank.
I thought the Nexus Mods App was being built to have an official mod manager that actually could go toe to toe with MO2.
Are they going to overhaul Vortex?
r2modman is still the best modding experience I have had outside of Minecraft.

4·9 days agoI haven’t had forced OneDrive on Windows 10, or Cortana.
It comes with shit installed that it shouldn’t, but every thing I have uninstalled, has stayed that way.
Other than the shitty settings menu, Windows 10 ended up okay. You just had to tweak and work around some things, which you will be doing with Linux too.
Windows 11, on the other hand, is a complete pile of shit. I dual boot Linux now and use Windows less and less.
A popular but unofficial Android app by “catfriend” was weirdly taken over by someone with no credentials. So everyone lost trust in it and the new maintainer was very sketchy in their responses to concerns.
There’s no controversy with the official project.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is entertainment getting worse or am I getting old?
2·1 month agoYeah, but there being more crap, means its less at its peak imo. You used to go on and just have good content mostly, now theres so much clickbait and garbage to sift through, which while the good content is still there, not being able to find it means YouTube is lesser because of it.
And absolutely, indies are the way to go, there’s a lot of low effort shit still posted to Steam every year, but the gems are in there. Big AA, AAA games are just money farmers now and they are also often buggy and unpolished even if the base game is good. All the additional purchases and shit ughhh, gaming fell off. There’s no game I am looking forward to anymore, I’m just waiting to be pleasantly surprised by some random new indie game that will drop.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is entertainment getting worse or am I getting old?
51·1 month agoWorse. YouTube peaked around 2010s 100%. There’s a lot of great content to find now, but you have to go digging.
Gaming is at an all time low, peoples standards have fallen off a cliff, games are made like shit. I think this is also because of how big and mainstream it is now too. There’s so much money and manipulation in it.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Windows 11 could actually become the same kind of mistake Sony made with the PS3
101·2 months agoIts because its used in schools, they learn it, they become reliant on it, its in their workplaces, at their home.
Its why Microsoft dont really care if you pirate Windows, the more people using it, the more reliant they are on it, then they cash in big time at the enterprise level. Same with Photoshop etc etc.
If we taught how to use Linux instead…

683·4 months agoDon’t mutilate your child. Just remember to teach them to retract the foreskin and wash under it, by the time they are 10, it should be unfused from the glans.

Not going to lie, I prefer it that way. There’s just enough people here that it’s engaging, but not too many that it will turn into a cesspool like reddit did. Let’s just let it attract the right users naturally for as long as possible. We don’t need to mass market it and bring every reddit user over.
Nobody should say it imo and I mean nobody, some words can just be left in the past.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•TIL that "nginx" is pronounced "engine-x", and not "n-jinx"
31·11 months agoI thought we were having a bit of a joke, but then you really went and gave me a gift of paragraphs.
I think the creator was keeping the joke running by saying that. The word gift is why people prefer to say gif over jif, it’s how we were taught to pronounce “gif”. The rest of the g words are irrelevant to be honest.

Same. Feeds were mostly random or had generally popular things in, now its all fine tuned dogshit. Social media needs to die.

They can just choose to ignore the questions, but they have big egos and zero social skills.
