I watched the first 6 laps…noticed this was going to be super boring, decided to go gor my daily walk. Came back to find nothing had really changed and life was good.

Something tells me we’re going to see mad Oscar for the rest of the season. He seems to be done with the Papaya rules.

Hamilton given five-second time penalty, drops behind Alonso

Lewis Hamilton has been given a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits “multiple” times during the last laps of the Singapore Grand Prix as he tried to hold off Fernando Alonso in their battle for seventh.

Hamilton had a huge 40-second margin to Alonso but lost his front brakes and cut several corners as he tried to get the car across the line.

The Ferrari driver held off Alonso by four tenths but will now drop to eighth, with Alonso promoted to seventh.

The stewards said: "During the hearing, the driver confirmed that he left the track at several occasions. He was trying to manage a brakes issue situation.

“This being said, after further investigation, and in accordance with the list of exemptions foreseen in the Driving Standards Guidelines, the Stewards considered that this was not a justifiable reason and apply the usual penalty for such type of infringement. This was not contested by the team representative nor the driver.”

The race was not worth waking up at early for 😅

Can’t believe for a second year in a row there was no SC. Hopefully with a sprint next year we see more unpredictability.

Congrats McLaren for a back-to-back WCC win. There have been big blunders, but there have also been strong performances to make them deserve the title. Now please don’t mess with the WDC.

Strong performance by Russell this weekend. Stepped up tremendously in the last 18 months or so.

Singapore tends to be shit, this was always a big gamble to alarmclock for.

Can’t believe for a second year in a row there was no SC. Hopefully with a sprint next year we see more unpredictability.

That depends, is Mazepin, Latifi, Sergeant or Doohan coming back? The average skill of the grid is just way too high these days. Or at least the floor is the highest it’s ever been. Combine that with almost bulletproof reliability and the unpredictability is at an all time low.

Every car finishing the race used to be a once-in-a-Blue-Moon thing, now it’s the presumed default outcome for every race. Races with no incidents (no flags or cautions) used to be similarly rare, now they happen all the time.

Sooo, who’s excited for a Singapore sprint next season? 😂

Not the most thrilling race we’ve seen, at least not for the right reasons. I feel like what I’ll remember most is Alonso’s 9-second pit stop and ensuing team radios, as well as Hamilton crawling towards the finish line without brakes on the final lap. These races where the tyres just last forever tend to compound the issues of dirty air and performance convergence that leads to problems overtaking. Still, we really shouldn’t have Softs doing 35 laps around here surely?

There were some good drives sprinkled in there though and even some overtakes, unfortunately the broadcast didn’t show many of them. Bearman’s was probably the best one, but Alonso posted like 7 on track overtakes, which is damn good for being Singapore. It’s almost unbelievable he got back to 8th (7th after the penalty) despite the pit stop blunder. Antonelli had a decent drive too all things considered and managed to recover from his poor start. Hamilton was actually driving really well until the brakes gave out, in particular on that final softs stint where he was flying. Sainz final stint getting into the points through like 4 overtakes in 7 minutes was crazy and completely missed by the broadcast.

Commanding drive from Russel who is still somehow underrated. He has to be the most disrespected driver on the grid right now, just so fast and so consistent. An out and out title fight between him and Max would be box office. I really hope we get the machinery for that next year.

Alonso easily driver of the day, both for his driving and his team radios.

George still has his reputation from diving to the inside and radioing “he just turned into me!” from his rookie season. He is much better now though!

Oh he’s had his moments for sure. He also got clowned on a lot for celebrating the farcical Spa '21 podium, there was him crashing out Bottas and punching him in the head too. I guess he has a lot of negative PR to overcome. I actually think he’s matured a lot though and even rather enjoy his personality these days. He can be quite funny when he wants to.

But in terms of driving skill I think he’s pretty clearly the second best driver on the grid right now. For me it’s Max at SS tier on his own, George at S tier on his own, and then you can start arguing about who is in A tier with the likes of Leclerc and Alonso.
