Take the time to tag users who use it. I generally find its the same assholes posting dozens to hundreds of times a day, rather than a widespread lack of morals

It is popular to generate, not necessarily popular to consume. There’s some research showing clearly that most people hate ai and its slop, but that they also use it to make content. It was present in all genders and ages etc. Very peculiar.

    Kids don’t attend shows anymore.

When I was 20, I wasn’t the youngest kid in the crowd, but there were guys and gals over 40 for sure.

Now I’m near 40, and, I’m not the youngest guy in the crowd, but…

It’s crazy. My gf and I were lamenting it together like, damn. We’re a part of what looks to be the last generation that participated in music culturally.

There will always be musicians just as there are poets. But ain’t nobody lining up to see a poet today like they did in Rome.

    Fucked up.

If you’re generating something for yourself, you probably have some standards. If you’re generating it for something you don’t really care about, the criteria for “good enough” suddenly take a hit. If you’re working on some soulless ads for a brand you don’t care about, basically any trash will do as long as the client won’t strangle you.

The Fediverse is a subset of a subset of the social internet and hardly represents reality. I work in an industry that prints customer art and it’s way more common than I’d like to admit. Thankfully we’re not the ones generating the art, but I always want to tell customers to stick it when they bring their garbage generated crap in.

Customers having their own AI-generated art printed isn’t consumption, though—how many people are getting prints of art that someone else generated?

I think generating AI slop from their own prompts feels empowering to people because it’s still closer to what they had in their heads than anything they could have created otherwise. But on the consuming end, it becomes clear that there’s no actual information content that couldn’t have been conveyed more easily by the source text.
