All of human history, plagued by this disease, 300 million deaths in the 20th century alone, someone developed a vaccine, and poof, it’s gone. Just like that. Country by country, as the vaccine spread, the disease disappeared. Countries that didn’t have the vaccine yet, like the one where that picture was taken, still had smallpox, when other countries had eradicated it. Then they got the vaccine and it was gone.
