  • This is my simple history as some who never lived there but has a degree in history.

In the 1800s, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho were part of the Oregon territory. In the middle of that century, white settlers began to move in and they hated slavery and didn’t want it but they hated free black people even more than slaves. They eventually passed a few laws that banned “negroes” and “mullatos”. The area also had a large influx of religious fundamentalist and separatists in its early history. Those laws were eventually repealed but created the majority white population of that area.

The early/mid 20th century saw other issues like the KKK but those were minor compared to what comes later. Cut to the 1970s and the Aryan Nations and other white nationalist groups began to move there. Those groups grew and encouraged more like minded racists to move there in hopes of setting up a whites only homeland.

  • I don’t know if you can get it in Australia but I like Spindrift seltzer/sparkling water when I want a beer substitute. Obviously it doesn’t taste like beer. I was someone who hated seltzer for a long time, none of it tasted right and too fruity but also somehow not enough since its just sparkling water. Someone recommended Spindrift since they use real fruit so it has some real flavor but it’s still low in calories. I’m partial to the grapefruit flavor because it’s the most tart/crisp.

  • It was a long time ago but I remember it being difficult for me. That door of the cell closes behind you and then it’s just you and your time. My cell was totally empty except for the bed but it was comfortable enough. The slit of light through the window was my only companion for the duration. They gave me enough time to think about what I did and I knew that I when I was finally free, I never wanted to go back again. I vividly remember when I was finally released, my mom opened the door the spare bedroom and said “Your thirty minutes are done.” And I was free to go.

  • The quickest and easiest version I have for fact checking is to check the source of the story, usually that’s in article. Check the ownership of the company, who owns it and what’s their agenda, that usually leads to who is their audience, who are they writing for and why. Is it to sell ads or actually pass on info. Also, if some thing is too goo to be true, it usually is but do the fact checking to confirm.

  • I like to have a drink or two but wouldn’t say dates go smoother with a drink. It depends on the people and the location.

Dinner at a nice place, sure, one or two alcoholic drinks with dinner is common but absolutely not necessary. Going to a coffee shop or some other cafe type place for lunch, I wouldn’t drink alcohol in a situation like that. You could do a more active date, like hike or go to a local museum or zoo. Some people like to get a drink after a hike but again it’s not necessary to drink alcohol.

I always liked to do the more active date and then maybe a meal after and sometimes that meal will involve alcohol but I live in a bigger city so I can get a taxi or ride share if I need it.

  • That’s your opinion. I was a leashed child at one point in my life and I don’t care at all. It was pre cell phones so that argument doesn’t work either. It’s not about the parent not wanting to deal with their kid, it’s about them not wanting the kid to bother other people and to prevent toddlers from running off in large crowds.

  • My dog isn’t too derpy so she doesn’t do that sort of stuff often but I always remember one goofy moment. We were walking along and she was doing her thing, sniffing all the great sniffs to be had. We were walking on concrete when she stopped to sniff something, all I could see was a small dark stain on the concrete but she was super into it. In one motion, she went to roll in it but must’ve realized too late that it was just concrete and did a full somersault, ass over her head, the whole thing. She popped up with a very confused look on her face for a few seconds while I stood there cackling to myself.

  • There are a lot of different socks out there, most of them are more like hose than socks. I use Bombas socks because they actually feel like regular socks except they go up to my knees. I use the 15-20mmhg compression in their large size and they work well for me.

Bombas also has a good return policy, I was trying to narrow in on the size and compression level and after the first pair was too big, i asked them if I could swap and they just sent me the smaller size for free. I’m a bigger guy if that helps you find the right size.

They aren’t cheap but they also aren’t crazy expensive. I just asked for socks for Christmas and a birthday or two and ended up with more than enough to get me through a week.
