I’ve heard that apparently, Japanese pronunciation is simpler to pick up (anime, games, etc). when you hear it spoken. As in, when foreigners learn it: they find that easier to listen to than spoken Mandarin since there’s no tones in Japanese (rather pitch accent, but it’s not the same as it could be understood based on context even if said wrong) while Mandarin places a huge emphasis on tones that change the definition completely.
Also, how does spoken Japanese sound to the ear when you either watch subtitled anime when you compare that to anime being dubbed in Mandarin? I know that one of my friends watches Asian dramas and prefers either Japanese or Korean audio over Mandarin for some reason (I’d assume it has to do with accent and how a language sounds when spoken). Is Mandarin dubbed anime even good or does it sound bad?

Chinese native speaker, pretty good at Japanese (passed N1 many years ago). I actually think spoken Mandarin Chinese is a lot easier to learn for most situations except for a complete beginner:
The Chinese dubbed anime thing is for Chinese ppl too. JP has a very robust seiryu (voice actors) industry, and a lot of CN/KR dubs just simply can’t catch up with the voice-over quality… A good example, think Genshin Impact: it’s a Chinese game but the default VA is JP. I highly doubt this has anything to do with the language themselves. The language themselves… I’ve heard some ppl say that spoken Chinese sounds “angry”, might have something to do with the tones. Not sure about Japanese…
I don’t think JP is default. EN was default for me, and I switched to CN / JP as soon as I could. (Also I’ve heard that the EN / JP translations are often inaccurate and that you should cross-check story details against CN.)
