I obviously have none, so I’d like to see if I can mooch off of you lol.

Please don’t leave any pessimistic top level comments. Or do, I’m not your mom 🤷‍♂️.

People were talking about games going off (saleable, owned) discs and saying it’s coz discs degrade and I got to post this

Eh, that’s just the shitty organic medium they cheap out with. Metal dyes (M-Disc Blurays are 100GB good for 100 years, fine even for modern games) are great, shame they’re artificially expensive.

Newer glass or quartz optical discs with femtosecond lasers are good for 360TB for 100K years (claimed) in a similar footprint. See also M$ sitting on ‘Project Silica’ for most of a decade.

Shame corpos don’t want the CD burning revolution to happen again, just imagine what sneakernet would be like if you could fit all of Netflix in the palm of your hand burned on a USB peripheral.

I really like the utopian possibilities currently available, just needs a bit of capitalist kicking to flower.

I got excited about the possibility of backing up shit once, and forever. Then I tried to buy this. Maybe this thread has made me too optimistic lol.

Wouldn’t it be good to just do it once. Damn, and it can be done, just not enough of a revenue stream. FU corpos. What we need is a bunch of people burning that model by just making good things that last near forever (what can we do now) and moving on to the next thing.

Do it once, do it right, move on. Not just pretty words.
