It’s “non-profit” reddit clone, but seems nice. Looks like a cool alpha, and I’d love to get an invite from a current user.
Just asking! Thanks!
I was on it for a few months.
It sucks because the admin is a dictator and bans you at the slightest hint of what they regard as negativity. In my case it was being skeptical about an news article’s story and commenting as such.
It’s basically a circle jerk, and if you don’t jerk off the other users there they ban you.
Thanks for the head’s up.
To be perfectly fair, a lack of negativity as compared to Lemmy is what I need in life. I like Lemmy, but holy shit, it’s like 4 people posting memes, Violet08 once in a while, and then 5,000 Eores complaining about anything and everything. The number of times people ask funny questions about something like time travel, and multiple users say “go back in time and keep my parents from meeting” responses… WTF? I feel like over the last 6 months Lemmy has just descended into a mental health crisis, and it’s making it harder and harder to even have normal conversations.
That’s why you need to use the block button liberally here. It sucks, but once you block a few instances and a couple of dozen users, the content here is more moderate and less insane.
Sadly the small size of lemmy/fedi allows a few dozen users to basically dominate the content pool. And they are vicious towards anyone they regard as hostile to themselves.
Once I blocked .ml, blahj, and a few others, the content here got way more sane and less negative. The users in those instance have bully complexes.
Same. Got banned there for pointing out some of the echo chamber articles that get posted there. I even donated to the dev because I thought he would be hands off, but nope. He wanted his little kingdom to do whatever he wanted with.
I lurked a bit at one point, but I believe the main dev has basically stopped working on it/mothballed it. From the way I understood it, it “works”, but there’s no guarantee it’ll keep working for any length of time.
Correct. I’m sort of active on it, but I believe they are sun setting it since it won’t be worked on anymore. It may not be that useful to join ar this point. The activity has died down. It’s a lot of “What are you xing this week” threads now.
It’s a walled garden created by an authoritarian. So…. No.
I am, it’s just okay. Some mice people but the way it is organized is decidedly suboptimal.
Can you tell us more about the “mice people”?
Too restricted IMHO. I thought it died a long time ago.
Can you elaborate a bit? Restricted how?
Seems to be still limping along.
I was active on there for a few years.
The mods are uber-censorious, in short. There were also a few power users who liked to brigade anything they disagree with.
Lemmy isn’t infallible or immune to such behavior by any means — but the public modlog, option to instance hop, and federated-community nature make it feel far more open and transparent. Tildes is much more of a walled garden, for better or (IMO) worse.
Good to know, thanks. I’ll give it a spin and see how it goes, but good to temper any excitement now.
I forgot about tildes. I was on it for a little bit but it didnt seem to have the same level of conversation that reddit did or lemmy does. Also I don’t like the name tildes but I guess thats not really important
As it is by invite only, and I warn’t, I ain’t.
Tried it, got bored fast.
