I replied to someone saying that the USSR defeated the Nazis saying that it was a group effort. Got into an argument and called a Nazi repeatedly because “I was mad that the USSR defeated the Nazis and hated them for it” which is ridiculous. This isn’t the first time that’s happened on Lemmy. What’s up with that?

The Soviets raped and killed everything in sight when they entered Romania. They can go to hell with their “help”. They fought the nazis, and they took advantage of the rest of us.

Nevermind how they installed a communist regime that ruined romania for like a decade or whatever. Not that communism is bad but that one sure was.

I don’t think you speak for all Romanians

Majority of Romanians view Ceaușescu and communist era positively, study shows

Romania’s president has expressed concern after a new survey highlighted a growing sense of nostalgia for the communist era, with former totalitarian leader Nicolae Ceaușescu viewed positively by most Romanians.

The study, released this week, revealed that nearly 56% of Romanians believe the communist regime—widely regarded as one of the harshest of its era—brought more benefits than drawbacks to Romania.

A large majority of respondents—over 66%—told researchers they now regard former dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu, who ruled the country with an iron fist from 1965 to 1989, as a good leader.

The Institute for Public Opinion Polling (INSCOP) study, conducted with the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER), suggests that nostalgia for the past is tied to widespread disenchantment around the country’s current prospects.

Just over 27% of respondents said they believed things in Romania are heading in a good direction, with more than 63% feeling that the country is on the wrong track.

Groups most likely to share positive sentiments about the communist era included the over-60s, people on lower incomes, and those living in the countryside or small towns. The same groups expressed the greatest disillusionment with present-day Romania.

In total, over 48% of Romanians said they believed life was better under communism.

The majority’s opinion doesn’t mean shit. Do I need to remind everyone that America voted an old geezer pedophile billionaire bastard for president?

        No, I don’t speak for all Romanians. I’m glad I don’t.

Ceausescu was an installed leader that had only Russia’s interests in mind, which wanted everything the leaders from other countries had, like Russia, North Korea, and other such countries. He wanted massive parrades, massive buildings, massive ego-boosting bullshit.

He then made all lthat happen. In the process, indebted the country MASSIVELY. It took us decades to recover, and the Romanian worker paid for it, not him and his cronies. In the end he was executed by the revolution on Christmas for his acts of treason against his working class. Those people that stood up to him were heroes.

Those that praise Ceausescu often say that he got rid of our debts. BUT HE CREATED THOSE DEBTS, with his ego-spending and megalomany

Those that like Ceausescu are idiots. They are the same people that like George Simion and Calin Georgescu.

No, that is Nazi propaganda that the US continued propagating through the cold war since it made the Soviets look bad. While there were definitely rapes that occurred, that happens with every occupying army, there was never any evidence of this being a policy or something tolerated by the officers. Any attempt to quantify this shows that American and British soldiers were more prolific in rapes of French women than Soviets anywhere on the Eastern Front, even though the usual refrain is just that the Soviets were better at covering it up than the US or UK, the lack of evidence is itself evidence. Also, most of the studies of this shows that having armed women combat fighters on the front and a more gender integrated military really cut down on the usual “boys will be boys” attitude of not addressing these things.

The other attempt to try to demonstrate this is the huge spike of recorded abortions in East Germany after the war, but if you think for a second about how Nazi Germany and West Germany outlawed abortions, but abortions became fully legal under East Germany, there might have been another explanation.
