I live on the border of Missouri and Kansas. While most of Missouri is Midwestern, the southern part is definitely southern. And while Kansas is Midwestern the western part of the state is well western. So what state to you is the most Midwestern?

Colorado. All those “Midwestern” states are clearly in the Mideast not the Midwest
If you’re just measuring distance on the map, one could make that argument. But keep in mind that the concepts of the eastern and western US center on the east as the origin point. Therefore everything west of the “East” is the “West”, and the Midwest is where that boundary begins.
Having spent a lot of time in Colorado, I’d say it’s very much culturally and historically where the West proper begins.
Right, you tell me to keep in mind that the center of the United States is roughly Columbus, Ohio and everything is defined in relation to there, but that is precisely the thing I take issue with. Kansas City is roughly north of the demographic center of the United States, and it should define the eastern border of the midwest.
Yeah, this. Like yeah sure back in 700 BC or whatever, when people assumed that ‘it ain’t gonna go on much longer, so this must be west’, but it’s almost like new developments and information change things. But you discover, pillage and trade the country to double the size, and west sure as fuck isn’t west anymore. I don’t care what anyone’s grand-grand-grand-grandpappy said about it.
If the primary argument was that the term is historical, I’d be a lot more sympathetic. But the term “the Midwest” originates in 1926, and the explanation is very explicitly that demographically, socially, culturally, etc. everything west of the Mississippi is a rounding error, and so it makes sense to declare the Appalachian mountains the spiritual center of the country and I hate that.
