About me:

I’m just getting started, deleted almost all my Google accounts, deleted my Reddit account, I’m deleting my Lemmy account too. I’m pathetic, unfortunately I was unlucky enough to be born with a good brain, I don’t even want to tell you how I screwed up, it’s not that scary, but I’m ashamed, I’ve, for first: linked multiple accounts with my phone number. For second: on different accounts, I have a similar pattern of communication with people. They were tied to e-mail, fortunately I did not give my phone number to those e-mails.

I’ve almost never used a VPN, never used Tor, and it’s not surprising, my brain is lousy, I constantly forget where I left the keys to the house.

Therefore, I would be happy to receive advice from those who also delete themselves from the Internet or have already deleted.

It depends on how unique you are.

If you have a name like John Smith, you can scrub your content and reliably hide behind all the other John Smiths out there.

If your firstname+lastname is unique on the planet, you have a uniqueness problem; there is no-one else to hide behind. You can also scrub the objectionable bits, but a good secondary strategy would also be to blast bland/irrelevant/dummy content everywhere such that anything important gets lost in the noise. You don’t want the few important bits to come up first in a search - make them work for it well past the 100th page of search results.

That’s 99.9% of people. Unless you’re a head of state or in some other way in highly influential or powerful position you’ve got nothing to worry about. You can never completely cover your tracks online. The best you can do is make it difficult enough for people to track you that they go with someone else instead. It’s also good practice to reming yourself of what the actual threat model is. Who do you want to stay hidden from?

It doesn’t take much to lose a stalker but if it’s big tech you’re trying to hide from then all you need is a cable cutter.

agreed, one would achieve the same thing if you just stop using all those services, instead going through a painstaking process trying to remove it yourself.

It definitely is, and at the same time the ways we’re tracked online are creepy as shit and most of it is too late to opt out of. Some of it also doesn’t even require your own input, just you existing.

Once I heard a story: once a hunter noticed that it was too quiet in the forest and there were no animals, he told the villagers about it, and they laughed and told him: well, calm down, don’t be paranoid, everything is fine, there are small strange things in life, this is life. And then hunger, disease and many deaths came to the village.

I once heard a story about someone who worried about everything all the time, even though none of their worries ever came to fruition. Then one day, when they were worrying about how they were going to pay the rent this month, they got hit by a bus and died.

Fictional stories can be great for making a point, but they really aren’t worth shit.

That is nothing my dude, almost all of us havw done the same unless we’ve been specifically coached not to.

In fact, it may be impossible not to. It is hard to write differently even if you consciously try to. Some accounts require your phone number, like healthcare and stuff. Even VPN and Tor isn’t totally usable or always helpful in every situation. Logging into Lemmy via Tor is counter productive for Tor use, actually.

The key is to just not give info that isn’t necessary. You can’t totally delete yourself, and having a completely blank slate may even be suspicious, depending on your threat model.

Reminds me of a buddy who, in a wild coincidence got really into digital cleanliness after he totaled his car in a wreck one dark night in Schenectady 😂

If you’re trying to erase something embarrassing, I’m told it’s best to modify the embarrassing thing rather than delete it.

      So…

What I have already mentioned in the post. Even though I was sitting on the same IP address, I never revealed my real country, in social networks, when I was asked, I never said my real name, only revealed my hobbies and my thoughts on politics, by the way, they are something like: democracy is a masquerade, we need to take possession of weapons, preferably nuclear, and show strength, then our rights will be respected.

And in those accounts where I gave my phone number, I didn’t say anything, these accounts were practically clean, I only used them occasionally, but they were on the same device as those accounts where I expressed my thoughts.

I also suspect that the phone was able to record and transmit much of what I said in my home.

It seems that you misunderstood me, I will say more precisely: I called on people to use the lever of pressure on the authorities at any cost, because this is why we have rights and freedoms, and if we do not have the strength to fight back, then it will be like in the wild, where we will be like wounded rabbits, and huge bears will crush us with their feet while we squeak about our rights when we protest or protest on the Internet.

In general, I’m damn tired today, I doubt that I will be able to explain everything clearly, sorry for that. But I don’t want the AI to collect additional digital traces of my IP in the future, and then tie everything I’ve said to what already collected and sent the microphone of my phone and TV.

I will probably keep silent about the fact that you can track the movements of people in the room on Wi-Fi, or on a thermal imager. It’s terrible.

        You’re right though?

But for real, unless you’re doing actual organizing, you’re probably fine. You can’t decide to make past communications private. You can only change what you do going forward.

If you want true anonymity, that is truly a different ballgame these days.

in my opinion, because of the AI surveillance, it will no longer be a game, but masochism, maybe even heart attacks, as well as a lot of hair pulled out of the head due to constant paranoia, lol.

Yes but I have no idea where to start.

I deleted my Instagram profile because I made stupid comments when I was younger, but that was mainly just because instagram is bad for you and only idiot friends were there.

I had already thought about the instagram thing for a while but decided that nobody would see the comments because they were all years old and you have to find a specific meme on a specific page to see each one.

I deleted my twitter and never used a real name for it, so I think I’m good on that count.

However, what you are talking about doesn’t mention fdigital footprint much and it seems you’re being paranoid
