How do you have fun? Can you describe how you spend your free time IN DETAIL? (don’t just say “I play basketball” or “I go to a bar”, describe the how you go there, how you prepare, how youtalk to people there, as in exemplifying phrases and the flow of the conversation, probiding chunks of the real dialogue).

mostly i build small weird websites at night. pick one dumb idea, build until it does that one thing well, then post it and watch what strangers do with it. the latest is a 90s chat room, lolchat.rip. reading what people type in there is the best part

Unfortunately there’s a difference between “having fun” and “spending your free time”, a good example of which is doomscrolling.

Pedantry aside, I’m in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), which is one of the largest medieval reenactment society. Most of the time that I’m out of the house, I’m usually going to fight practice or an event (which can be anywhere from 1 day to 2 weeks long).

I mainly do armored fighting, so I have a suit of armor that weighs 40-50lbs. And it’s real armor because we use rattan swords that are 2-3lbs and blows don’t count unless you actually hit each other with force. Even with armor, injuries do happen on occasion, including broken bones. I seem to be particularly accident prone though, so ymmv.

But there’s a lot more to do in the SCA. There’s archery, fencing, horse riding, dancing, bardic circles, brewing, arts & science competitions, classes, and just hanging out with friends.

I even make some things for it at home. I recently made a black & yellow gugel hood with embroidery to wear while marshalling (a referee) for armored fighting, and I’m currently making a blanket stitch by hand on the dags of a different hood to prevent it from fraying more. I’ve also made several parts (but not all) of my armor. There’s also a couple of crossbow kits I assembled a few months back that I still need to tweak before they can be used.

That being said, I have to drive long distances to get to fight practices due to living in the middle of nowhere. Between gas prices and lack of time + energy on workday evenings it’s gotten hard to attend so I mainly get to fight at weekend events.

Outside of the SCA, I’m also working to degoogle and need to take a second try at getting a media server up and running soon. I built one a couple years back but wasn’t able to get things set up before more important tasks popped up. Though that’s not really “fun” in a traditional sense. More like “fulfilling”

It really depends. In tandem with my day job, I also have other projects going on that I work on so I’m usually working even when I’m not working. The two major projects I’m working on right now is I’m putting together a graphic audiobook of a novel I wrote. That usually means I’m either in the makeshift audio recording booth I made in my closet reading my book out loud or I’m sitting on the couch putting together my narration along with the voice actors lines while Home Alone is on the projector for background noise. The other project I’m also doing is I’m in the process of sculpting my Miqo’te Dancer from Ffxiv in Blender in preparation for 3D printing her so I can have a custom figure of her. I’m just finishing up the 360 turnaround sketch of her and then I’ll be moving on to sculpting the base naked body.

Outside of my off the clock work, I usually lie in bed and play my Rog Ally while I have funhaus or MXC playing on the TV. Or, I talk to my friend from university over discord about unhinged topics that usually descend into comparing waifus and husbandos or our shared PTSD from university. I live in a small town, so there’s not a lot to do outside.

It’s cool hearing my characters voices. It’s actually helping me shape how I see them and their responses to the situations in the story so I’m liking it so far

Why do you do them? Not like I am judging you for it, you do whatever interests you, but how do you manage to not get the crippling feeling of sheer purpuselessness of whatever it is youre doing? Like your novel is probably going to get read by 2 people and your figure is probably going to be times worse than whatever level professionals and large industries are at. Also PTSD from uni? How? Unhinged topics? How do you manage to not run out of things to say 3 mins into the convo really? There really isn’t much going on iny life + I don’t know how to make anything go on (not without unlimited money, sigh). When I talk with my coworkers its just about stuff that happened at work and upcoming work events and there isnt really much I can tell them that they dont already know and our convo typically goes like me/him just stating plain facts and me/him responding with “hmmm, yeah, cool, nice or that’s crazy”

I’m really such a tired old lady now, that I tend to stay home, think about cleaning up but usually don’t, or pick up a little art project, right now I’m trying to talk myself into embroidery; a week go I had some fun with air dry clay.

My last day off I went to office Depot and this lady admired my hair, then she apologized and said she wasn’t trying to give me “mal de ojo” (evil eye) which is a Mexican superstition; that if someone envys you, then you (who is envied) could receive bad luck. We laughed about it.

I said I needed an egg in my car, which is wrong, I need a lime in my car to ward off the evil eye, but she did a motion; like praying over me with the egg, either she didn’t notice or she played it off, and we laughed about it. I was kicking myself afterwards for mixing up the two practices…so yeah…im still thinking about it lol

After that i probably went home and played games/watched youtube videos

What were you doing when you were my age (24)? I feel like everything is just a random blur now and I have to push myself to give even a slightest amount of fuck about anything. Its like you can’t be passionate anymore, can be stressed though 🤟from dick bosses at work. I go home and I can just sit for hours or/and fall asleep til like 4-6 Pm or so

Mostly ignore people and go out into the woods in various ways.

    Or read books.

I used to go out a lot but increasingly people IRL in my city are weird and hostile, like a lot of fediverse users, so it’s just nicer to stay home than go outside and be harassed by a weirdo with a complex. Prior to '22 nobody ever came up to me looking to start a fight ever, since middle school. But basically every other month someone tries to start a fight with me on the street or at a restaurant now, it’s insane. IME it feels like the insanity of online/social media rage/hostility is bleeding over into reality and people feel like they must tell random people they see IRL how much they hate them.

Just go out. Go to bars, cafes, restaurants, movies, plays/concerts, etc and sometimes just hang out. Places also used to be open much later and they were much cheaper. I never got drunk.

I had many places I’d go out regularly. a lot of them closed and got replaces by much more expensive places that cater to a ultra snobby crowd I don’t want to be around.

Wdym by “ultrasnobby crowd”. I personally can’t help but question whether I am a snob or the people around me are uncultired cattle sometimes lol 🤣

It depends, really. I usually just fiddle with PC (piracy, emulation and the like) but also game a lot (on PC) and recently got a Switch 2 with Mario Kart World (and tomorrow Zelda Ocarina Remake). If gaming does not satisfy my needs then I read, currently busy with Revenge Of Odessa and debating to start any of the Dostoyevsky books.

In the evening I usually settle down with tv series or anime. I have been binging a show called ‘’Dr.Bull 2016’’ and started the new season of Dexter Resurrection yesterday evening.

Socializing is not my thing, I’m really introverted and don’t really like people in general. I rather have alone time after spending 5 full days surrounded by people from work.

I enjoy being an annoying, pedantic pain in the ass to jerks that like to assert that their sexist and homophobic opinions are the majority.

It’s incredibly easy to be more stubborn than them as they devolve into name calling and crying.

All I’ve seen you doing so far is being mad about people not agreeing 100% with your political views, which doesn’t really paint you in a good light. You’re basically a fanatic/follower who is trying very hard to frame their views as the objective truth when they aren’t and agressively propagate them to other people
