Seriously. People are all materialistic vapid assholes, billionaires rule the world and we’re letting them because we’re so fucking lazy and busy with following shithead influencers and taking selfies of our fake happiness.

The planet is on the brink. Is this it? I see dogs in the park… So pure hearted it hurts knowing they are stuck with us. With owners that leave them alone all day and walk them for a few minutes to make themselves feel better. They all have purebred dogs too because they use them as a fashion statement or what ever.

King Pedohile is threatening the whole world and again, we’re just letting him.

How did we get here? Is it because of our big fucking brains?

    materialistic vapid assholes

My sister earns 2.5 the national average. Her husband even more. They’re late 30s, own an apartment which they paid off years ago.

She complains that she’s poor and has to spend hours (and does) in various supermarkets to find the cheapest groceries.

She wants to buy a house that literally only the 1% can afford and she’s outraged she can’t afford to pay for it without making a loan.

She works in IT and didn’t even go to university for it. Imagine earning 2.5 the national average without a college degree in what isn’t even a management role or anything special, and complaining that you’re underpaid with the passion of a single mother of 3 who has to work two minimum wage jobs to raise her children. And no, my sister doesn’t even have pets. She simply gets to keep all her money.

Your mentality shapes your perception of the world around you. Improve your mental health and you will be less cynical.

You can’t change the world for everyone, but you can change the world for individual people. Simple acts of kindness go a long way in this regard.

It’s important to keep in mind that everyday we all stare at the rectangles whose purpose is to show us all the terrible things occurring far and wide.

Emotions like fear and anger are very attention grabbing so they’re prioritized by the rectangles.

Everyone knows the odds of winning the lottery are so bad that it’s pointless to play, but people keep buying tickets. Why? Because the TV is always showing you people winning the lottery! Imagine if for every news story about a lottery winner they had to give an equal amount of time to every loser? Do you think people would still ny lottery tickets?

    Lower trust.

Ever experience the difference between a low trust society and a high trust society? At one point in my life, I would bring my car in for an oil change and I’d bring new oil too, because I couldn’t trust the mechanic to not fill my car up with waste grease from the restaurant next door to save a buck. I would, of course, also watch them do the work to make sure they didn’t just steal my good oil and fill it up with waste grease anyway.

Then I moved to a high trust society. Suddenly, I was just a paranoid motherfucker, because who would try to screw you over in such a dumb way?

I imagine that people getting out of prison have similar experiences. Prisons tend to be low trust societies, where everyone has an angle. Then you get out, and you have to get used to the idea that everyone isn’t, in fact, trying to screw you over for their own benefit.

High trust societies are starting to run into low trust issues.

Its complicated. Capitalism is likely a big part of it. Lack of connection is part. Lack of empathy/care for others a is a part. All of these (and more) feed back into each other. For example, Capitalism feeds wealth to those who act badly. See the worst people become more powerful reduces trust, and thus empathy/care. Lack of empathy/care makes connections between people worse. Lack of connection makes it harder to organize against bad actors. Address any of those factors, and the loop is weakened or broken, but all of those are hard to fix and reinforce each other. This means there is no single reason, and no easy fix.

its human greed. its our fatal flaw…the inability to let go the raw animal instinct of greed.

that is the single common thread with all of humanities failures.

do we deserve to move off this planet if we cant solve the empathy problem? Id say no.

Humans can be greedy, yes. But capitalism incentivises that greed, and empowers those who are the most greedy. Greed is a problem. But capitalism is THE problem.

You’re operating from a known bias called capitalist realism, in which capitalism is assumed to be a natural, organically arising system. It’s not. It’s a constructed system, deliberately crafted by greedy people, for greedy people. And it’s not a “random” observation on my part, people have been saying this basically since capitalism was invented. The profit motive of capitalism rewards those who are willing to be the most relentlessly greedy, and the mechanism of competition means that those greedy people eventually will own everything. More greed equals more expenses cut on safety, quality, and wages, expenses cut means more profit, more profit means more power in capitalism, more power means you are more capable of winning in the marketplace, winning in the marketplace means it’s even easier to win again, and again and again until it snowballs out of control and we’re stuck with a monstrous monopoly and the enslavement of the working class. Capitalism is the problem.

The root cause is capitalism. Everyone being materialistic, billionaires ruling the world, the climate on the brink of collapse- all of OP’s concerns are caused directly by capitalism. Under capitalism, the only thing that matters is the endless accumulation of wealth. Human wellbeing and environmental sustainability both take a backseat to the profit motive.

“To look at people in capitalist society and conclude that human nature is egoism, is like looking at people in a factory where pollution is destroying their lungs and saying that it is human nature to cough.” -Andrew Collier.

                so freakin dense.

the failure of every freakin ‘ism’ that exists, that has ever existed has at its root cause; human greed not able to constrained to the rules of the system. im referring to a raw human trait. a fucking personality defect. not a specific implementation, such as the single one you guys are all entirely fixated on, capitalism.

does it suck? yep. so do ALL OF THEM, becuase human greed inevitably fucks it , all… up.

but go ahead and keep railing how special captialism is for some reason, but jesus go open a new thread about it… cuz youre out of context here

I’ll offer one more reply, then I’ll let you have the last word, since I see we’re already arguing in a circle.

Yes. Human greed is a problem no matter what system we live under. You’re correct when you say that. But what I’m saying is only capitalism incentivises and rewards greed in the way we see today. I have explained how it does so in my comments above. Greed is a problem, capitalism exacerbates that problem in a unique and profoundly destructive way.

Some life sucks and there’s are bad things happening, but it sounds like you’ve been on the Internet too much and got bad world syndrome. Might be time to detox and actively try to focus on good things around you. If you gotta go online watch stuff about uplifting news, that stuff never gets covered nor talked about enough. Right now your brain is wired and primed for threats and bad things and you need to widen your scope a bit.

What is being discussed uses language that was decided by the same DSM that up until a few decades ago labeled homosexuality as a mental illness and caused Turing to be chemically castrated with the same estrogen that trans people line up for today, and then to kill himself over the violation of his bodily autonomy, and then to be stamped on £50 bills as a retroactive apology. That’s what’s being discussed.

Language is used to pathologize people for seeing things objectively. Systemic critique gets converted into personal failure. If you look at how the anglosphere operates through language you’ll realize that 99% of English serves the grammatical purpose of shifting the blame downwards and to pathologize people with thought-terminating clichés that imply that their own “free will” (which can’t be proven to exist and which the elite doesn’t believe in) is the root of their problems. Not the material conditions. But your reaction to them. Obviously. Because it’s never material conditions created by a person who can be punched, it’s always something wrong with you specifically. And with an ever-increasing proportion of the world population, apparently. The rise of depression is proof that the therapist class is doing a shit job at healing people, mostly because if they heal you they can’t pay their mortgage anymore; and besides it’s not like they can actually fix capitalism so they just sell you copium and tell you that you should be glad to be huffing it.

So in conclusion: why does everything suck? Because language is captured so thoroughly that you can’t even express the plain truth that your eyes observe without being categorized as something that can be used to reduce you to a manageable stereotype. So you internalize the stereotype and wonder why the cognitive dissonance you’re feeling hurts so much, and then you’re billed hourly to cope with it.

In order to succeed and be happy you don’t need therapy, you need lawyers who can litigate semantics and threaten people until they give up and leave you alone. Impunity is happiness for the untouchable.

There are very real problems in this world, but it seems you can’t even see a good thing without twisting it into a bad thing. You should get some help with that.

Capitalism is a cancer that eats itself. That was always true, but the can that the boomers kicked down the road has become an avalanche that will crush all of us. The billionaires know this but think they can still make their lieftimes cozy with enough money (which is all they really care about).
