I’ve been informed that people outside UK generally don’t know or care (not caring is the correct response BTW.).
Still seems bizarre to me.
I don’t know him very well. But he looks like the kind of person who would have gone and spoiled it all by saying something stupid like “I love you”. Sometime around the Millennium.
No
That’s Robin Williams his son, isn’t he? Robbie? /jk
Yeah, I know him, his hits were also popular in the Netherlands.
Haha! A lot of us know Robbie now. I feel like when his movie came out, Europe figured it would be recieved as well as a movie about Michael Jackson but it just didn’t work out that way.
It’s Lenny Henry.
You’ve unlocked a core memory from Y2k. Robbie Williams is still recognizable to me for his song Millennium. I am from the US.
His was one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. (Africa and now Europe)
Ricky Martin x Patton Oswald?
Cannot unsee this now 😂
A little bit of Carson Daly too.
American here. I have no idea who this is.

This is Lemmy, which crowd are you expecting to know him, the Marxists, the distro-snobs or the furries?
Thought you were saying this is Lemmy for a second, which is ludicrous as Lemmy was better looking by far.
The furries
Wait. I’m not a Marxist or distro-snob… Fuck.
Not yet :3 Let’s talk linux once you’re done with your fursuit :P
Leftist Linux user here. I know who he is. He’s the guy who had the awesome video of tearing his muscles off while roller skating and throwing the raw meat at supermodels (Rock DJ).
Also Milllenium really captures the vibe of the 90s.
Edit: I am USian. But I guess his popularity peaked here in the 90s and so a lot don’t know him.
Same here, but it’s worse because I only dabble with Nix on raspberry PIs. I was not a fan of his until he threw his buttcheeks at a model. Though his MTV cribs was decently funny.
Liar! That’s not Lemmy, he doesn’t have any coco puffs on his face!
As an American I didn’t recognize his face. Then I read that he is Robbie Williams and I also didn’t recognize his name.
Seconded
Not that good with faces or pop singers, but pretty sure it’s Robbie Williams.
Since lemmy-verse user base skews heavily towards the western world, I think the real gap is not going to be UK vs Not UK, but US vs Rest of the World. And since there was a popular movie and a Netflix documentary about him, even Americans are probably more aware of who he is.
I’m a Spaniard and I don’t recognise the face or the name. Maybe I might recognise the melody of any of his most known songs tho.
Am American and while I recognize the name I wasn’t into his music and forgot his fsce.
I’ve seen Better Man and did not recognize OPs pic as Robbie Williams.
Yes, mainly because I’m an elder 🎶mil-len-ni-al🎶.
Core memory of a pub drunkenly singing this out of tune at 1/1/2000
🎵 We got STARS di-rectin’ our fate 🎵
American here and I instantly recognized him thanks to this video, too. Also, “Rock DJ.”
Rock DJ has one of highest deltas between “Enjoyable Song” and “Deeply Upsetting Music Video”
I remember hearing that song years ago and recognized the name because of that, but didn’t recognize his face.
AND THROUGH IT ALL, SHE OFFERS ME PROTECTION…
Angels is played a lot as a warm up or “please leave now” song at least in my area in southern Germany
Brit here, I never really thought about it but you’re absolutely right, Angels is such a “please leave now” song lol
It also seems to have a calming effect on drunks, making them more accepting of the fact that the evening has to come to an end. I honestly only have positive (while partially blurry) memories about this song :D
It’s definitely the type of song that plays in the club when the lights are turning on again, people are cleaning up, and you are singing with some random drunk German guy in the arms on the dance floor.
I live in the United States and I’m in my 40s; no idea who this is.
